I have 5 Silkies that are 23 weeks today, they're not even squatting for me yet. The 3 Rouen ducks , laid 2 eggs one day and 1 the next ,2 weeks ago then nothing. I've even put everyone in "lockdown" (they usually free range large pasture) and yep I'm wearing a path to the coops:D The kids and hubby find this hysterical! lol

I have 26 chickens, 7 different breeds, 21 weeks old, and no one is laying! There's a whole lot of chicken sex going on, so I would like to know what's taking so long on the eggs!!

I have 9 girls that are between 24-26 weeks old and are still not laying. Then I have 2 that I am not sure how old they are. They were given to us from a friend who couldn't take care of them anymore. They are a lot younger than the rest. Plus we have 26 black star's we ordered from Mcmurray that are 3 weeks old plus the free rare breed, which is still a question on what breed it is. It looks like a chipmunk though with the feathers coming in barred and brown. My hubby is starting to get really impatient and are trying to say that the oldest ones are sterile. I keep telling him that they will lay when they get ready.

I am in the waiting business too! I have 3- 25 week old marans. Their combs are bright red, but no squatting and no eggs...

Still no squatting that I know of, but... :drumroll please: I got my first egg today!!! It was laid this morning UNDERNEATH the hay in the nest boxes. I suspect my barred rock just cuz of her red comb. I am very excited!!! Sorry for the blur. I think she is about 22 weeks old. Got her on April 27thish.

I have four hens that were born somewhere around Easter that are supposed to be Rhode Island Red and Ameraucana mix. That makes them around 21 or 22 weeks old. One of them started laying last week and I've been getting one light brown egg every other day. The eggs are on the small side but always the same size. I'm wondering which one is laying and when are the others going to start!

Thanks! I'm excited! I do not know why I can't take a good picture.

I can't say I like the grass hay I was sold.. the alphalfa was much better at letting the hens 'make' a nest. I think that was why it was UNDER the hay.

You should have seen my kids' eyes light up when I showed it to them when they got home from school.

I just got on today to see if there were other people in the same boat as me and I found this thread. I have 3 RIR's, 2 BO, and 1 Buff Rock (I don't know the abbreviation for that one). Anyway, they are about 21 weeks old. I never understood what people meant when they said their chickens "squatted" for them but now I do. At least half of my chickens are doing that now so I am hoping they are getting ready to lay. I decided to keep them in the coop and their run with their nest boxes for most of the day and out just a little in a small yard. I end up standing on my head at the end of the day to see if they laid anything under a shrub!
These are my first chickens ever and I can't wait for these eggs!
