When we adopted Bean - our first drake - it was in October. And he was a real milk toast. Stayed with his girl, and hopped on top of
no one. He and his girls had their own room at first, but then were able to mingle with the runners when they wished - which was not often.
Two days before Valentine's Day, the hormones kicked in and he was with his girls, then some of the runner girls, and it all looked good. Then Zwei and a few friends became the morality police, and chaos ensued. So, we separated the Bean group from the rest for a long long time. About a month ago, it seemed time to reintroduce, and now we are just fine, mixing and mingling, pretty happy.
I think his (your new guy) hormones are low, he is young and in a new scary place when he is with the girls. I would take a deep breath, let my inner nine year old have fun with the idea of a duck in the basement, spend a little time with him, helping him become more sure of himself.
Bean, best I can figure, was very, very insecure when he arrived, and that led to some less than helpful responses to my bossy, nasty runners. I was surprised at how belligerent they could be. Not MY sweet babies!!!!!
So I would go it slow, because in my experience, patience has really paid off well.
