The Duck Thread

I have a question about ducks so here it is:

My next door neighbors have ducks, and when i let the chickens out they come over and eat all the mash for the chickens that i put in there!

so my mom keeps putting more in there because the chickens like to go in and out of the pen to eat there food.

you see the the neighbors just let there ducks go up and down the road and to my house

and at 6am in the morning they are quacking quacking and quacking!

So do you think it is right of me to to put those ducks in the goat pen so they don't eat the chickens food??

Have you told your neighbors that her ducks are eating your chickens feed? if they don't know they can't correct it. I'd nicely have a talk with them if they don't keep their ducks home then go to plan B. Plus their ducks are in danger of predation if left to just roam all over the place.

My ducks molt after they get over their broodiness.

That might be the difference between Mallard derived and Muscovy Amiga. Mine have 1 big molt a year in which they loose their flight feathers. and it's in the fall.

they know that they eat it so they are in the goat pen now.

the person they got them from had hawks and things like that all over the place, so they said no need to build them a place to live

Your goat pen or theirs. Maybe you can give them BYC address and they can find out how to care for their ducks or maybe you can print them out some info.

ours they said it was alright to keep them here, but if they eat the our mash there eggs are ours.
but we gave them some old bread this evening

Old bread is not healthy for any poultry. If your going to keep them then your responsibility to feed them proper food. And then you'll have healthy ducks and eggs for eating. How many ducks and what breed?

it wasn't that old we made it like last week it was just the end slices that is all. i didn't mean old. sorry!

they are 2 pekins we are keeping them there till they build a pen of there own

That's very nice of you to keep them safe till they build them a pen.
