The Duck Thread

Please don't cut that should be last resort. soaks and clear iodine should take care of it especially if your not even seeing a black scab yet. feel all over bottom of foot for splinters and look closely too wrap him in a large towel. Also check his leg up and down for swelling or extra heat. make sure to check where leg and body meet for anything that could have gotten wrapped around.  My Runner had some vining wrapped around his neck and he finally got it off but i thought for sure i was going to have to do it. it wasn't tight but still worrisome.

Oh I was not going to cut anything open!!! Just looking for some kind of irritation! Thanks for the advice tho I need all I can get! Towel is a great idea! Those wings are huge

Hopefully if bumble is started you'll get it quick since no scab has formed yet. Let us know how it goes.

Here's a random question! I have a wild turkey! Running around my home for a few days now every morning...I have 3 pekin Ducks could they be in danger? I have placed them in their den for now but does any one now are wild turkeys aggressive with territory and such? Should I shoo it away

I don't know - but am interested in this. We occasionally have wild turkeys come through. Once a young Tom seemed very interested in the flock of Runners. He spent a while checking them out, then moved along. But we keep our Runners in pens when they are unaccompanied by a human adult.

I once had a wild turkey walk through the yard one day. The chickens paid no attention to it. My drakes RAN IT OFF! I mean, they chased it out of sight! It was hilarious!

It took two soaks, scrubbing at the wrong location, me and the DH getting scratched up, our welshie girl freaking out on us BUT we got a tiny thorn out of his foot! I think our post-op bandaging will be a complete fail but we can redo that.

wrong location (although I'm not positive this hadnt caused a problem in the past)

in the center-ish there's a tiny little red spot, no pus came out and the skin is well vascularized, pink and clean. No signs of infection or necrosis

tiny little thorn on the right is what came out!
He was walking (slightly) better after it came out, no one likes walking on a bandage.

Also, any ideas why his feet are so dark? Our welsh's feet are clean(?) I guess looking but his are not. Could it be that he doesn't spend nearly as much time in the pool??

Very informative. I think his feet are clean, at least compared to mine's. But then again mine free range all day long. Ha Ha...AND 4 out of 7 have black feet!

Thanks again.

Aha! Hallux. Yea, I like little short toe better. :D or maybe little stubby toe.

Guess I could have Googled it, but it would have probably brought me right back here!

Noticed one a little raw on one of my babies yesterday. Looks like she stubbed it on a rock or something.
