The Duck Thread

Beautiful! So pretty! I love the name:) We don't have a filter at this time. We will be putting in a skippy filter soon. Water is pumped from the lower end up to the upper end helping to circulate the water.
How do you keep water in that is there a piece of plastic or something? And I want to make a gravity fed filter as I don't have a way to run electricity to the pond unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in when it needs cleaned as our drive way runs through our yard there one acre on the one side and another on the other side and the drive way runs though the middle. But beautiful pond you have and if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost to make that? Not including landscaping and everything just pond alone. Thanks

Beautiful! Is it lined with clay? Our ponds are also connected by a waterfall, with the water circulating the same way.

My friend has a duck that was limping she finally got it and found a string had gotten wrapped around both feet it had cut all the way to the bone. She says if doesn't smell good. Is there any hope ? She also asked me about amputation! Out of my realm .

Keeping it as clean as possible may have a chance. Use saline wash to clean the wounds then either use Veterycin spray [won't have to touch the wounds] or some kind pf antibiotic salve with out pain relief in it. A Vet would probably be a good idea or if not feasible then I'd probably give some oral antibiotics. Some you can get at Feed stores. Either Penicillin or Tetracycline. Put into drinking water. Only a vet should do an amputation because of trauma to blood vessels . Someone with experience but sure wouldn't be a very good life for a duck to walk around on stumps that most likely would be constantly open and painful.

It's probably infected and will need an antibiotic. The duck should be taken to a veterinarian.

There is no plastic or liner. We pump water from one of our stock tanks to fill it up. I don't mind you asking but honestly I don't know. My DH and brother in law did all of the digging with a back hoe and tractor and they used rocks from our back pastures. The pump is an old used swimming pool pump. My DH says if we were to pay for the digging it would have cost around 3,000.

No liner. Do you have a filter? Ours is still a work in progress. The top part is the original that was dug deeper when we dug the bottom part. For some reason, the bottom isn't holding water. Would love to see pictures of yours

In a few weeks I am moving the ducks and giving them a pond dug into the ground.

@ChickenGrass They are very pretty.. and good for you that you have had them that long. They will love the new pond be sure to post pics when you can. Will the pond still be on your property? Thanks for sharing..

Hi there
Thank you.
I love ducks (and hens) but my ducks live longer
Yes the pond will be on my property maybe only 7 foot by 7 foot.
Not too big but it's big enough
What do you think? It it big enough
I will be starting the pond project after Christmas.
Thank you
Fionn.

Interesting. Our lower clay lined pond held water last year, but this spring noticed it would not, so instead of making the clay thicker, decided to just get a liner, and dug it much bigger. There's no filter. I need to get some updated pics, since just re-arranging flagstones on the waterfall, then I'll post a picture.
