The Duck Thread

Yep! The East Indies and snowy mallards. And my kids were home this morning and we were finally able to follow my wayward mallard so should be able to collect eggs and get rid of nest. Do I need to set something on it?
I sure hope this time all goes well.

First, pick a large container that you would use if you weren't afraid of them using it as a mini bathtub...

Before we got a small kiddie pool for in the garden to replace the pool that is now in their pen (once they realized that they could have TWO pools in their pen the ducks refused to let us take the second one back out), I just put a plastic dishpan out in the garden so they could at least get a drink and not only did I see the ducks trying to take baths in it but I also saw Henry trying to mount one of the girls in the dishpan. That was when we got them a kiddie pool.

Here they are at 2 weeks. I am shocked at how quickly they grow. The chicks I hatched last year grew much more slowly. Their bodies are already longer than my hand! Bath time is a favorite but they also enjoy lining up in their bin to watch movies with us and getting out of the bin to cuddle on our laps.
Awwwwwww! So very very cute!!! I especially love the "submarine" style second photo.

Yay!! Ducklings should be at post office in half hour!!!! Not going to think about how many tries it took but finally should have them. All ready and the trip should have been easier this time!!!!!

Hello! I ended up with a male duck. He probably wants a duck friend and not just chickens. Does anyone raise Cayuga ducks? I think they're really cool.

I have two females from Meyers. They are just gorgeous birds. They don't lay as well as our Welsh Harlequin or our two Buffs so I'm not sure that they are a breed that I want to expand into, but I'll always have at least a couple around for eye candy.

Here's one of them preening and showing off how beautiful she is:

Her sheen. Wow. All the colors of the rainbow, practically.
