The Duck Thread

What do you all use in your duck runs on the ground? Our run used to be for the chickens and the ground is pretty dug up. We have a 1/3 of it blocked off to let the grass grow back (we planted it early last fall) and i have pebbles around the pool area, but i am not sure what to use to keep the rest of it from being a mud hole. Does any one use sand, or are the small pebbles ok for a large area?

They'll mix the pebbles into the mud pretty quick. I don't have a "run" mine range over a half acre fenced in, but where the feed and water and pools are we laid down weed fabric then put river rock which is round got them at Lowes. Has worked out great.

Last year I hatched two call ducks a drake and a female, they just started to lay about a eek and s half ago, I know the eggs are fertilised because I sccudently dropped one, and I saw the bullseye, so I have a total of five eggs that I got over a week, I wasn't planning on hatching them but 2 days ago a fox got them both, so I though I would try and hatch them out just put them in in the incubator last night and I will hopefully have some duckies in 4 weeks time :D
