I've been adding Brewers yeast to my ducks feed but I think I've put in too much. Now they have intermittent diarrhea. No other signs of illness or even lethargy, just one runny smelly poop every now and then. The food and yeast gets mixed together when we fill their feeder. I figure they must get too much yeast sometimes.
Btw, our current setup seems to have beat them at their own little messy game!! The waterer isn't my idea. Someone posted about putting their waterer in the bottom of a pet taxi! Brilliant!!!! I went to Orschlens to find a better feeder idea and found a nifty little feed bin in the hamster/rabbit section. It hooks to the side of their cage and fills from the top. The sides of the trough were sharp, so I took some plastic tubing (sold by the foot in the next department over! Cost me .39), split it and superglued it on to the edges. Now it has soft edges. Good thing too! They take a bite and lean over to the water, take a bite, water.... Their bills would've been shredded. So my concern was warranted!
I wanted to add some grit since they get greens too, so I took one of the rectangle plastic baby food containers and super glued it on there too! You can see it on the left side of the trough. Couldn't be happier with that little feeder!
This pic was taken before my daughter got home from school and did her duck chores. In the morning, she makes sure they have "enough" for the day and cleans everything after school. Of course, I'm obsessed with them so I look in on them all day....
But they're hers and I don't want to take away the joy of replacing nasty food/water gruel every day. That would just be mean.
