I'm sorry I think I confused you with city farm who referred to the goslings as highly trained and I was very confused considering they aren't even mine. @caesargirl

I have a friend who I gave my pekin away too and my friend managed to legally obtain two Canada geese. Right now the geese are about a month old and I am curious how they will interact with my pekin and the rest of his flock for that matter. Will they all get along. ( sorry about the repost! Had a little typo)

Your right, it was your friend... I was in a hurry this morning before work, however tell your friend that has the Canada geese, they can tell people that they are highly trained geese..
Part of the other responce went to the other comment.. I guess it is easy to mess with ya.. :gig. :bun

So I just had a chance to candle all 12 eggs in momma a nest. Most seem very close in development, 3, are days behind. Actually closer to the ones I'm incubating. So I decided to leave all the eggs with momma, give her a chance to do what she will. All 12 had heartbeats and movement, good air cells too. Momma is back on the nest and we'll see how it goes. I will candle again in a week. I would say day 14-18. 3 being around 8-10. She's doing well for a first clutch. I am going to have to build a temporary pen around her VERY soon.

Very eggciting

I all ready have 6 ducks hahah!

It doesn't matter, no.. I will love it either way. If it is a Drake, we are just going to have to put them all in seperate enclosures. My dad is busy building them all now. These ducks have cost of a fortune. Haha. Worth it though :)
It is amazing how a 50 dollar investment in a few chickens for eggs has turned into a many hundreds of dollars per month enterprise with chickens ducks and geese. It is all worth it in the long run though...the pleasure of their company sort of thing. For example, this afternoon I sat out under an old oak tree while I grilled our dinner and watched all my birds go about their afternoon of scratching, flapping about and running across the field with their goslings in tow. What more could you possible want.

So we have 8 ducks and I believe half are drakes :-( I have seen postings that say separate them. Would that be all the drakes together or all drakes in their own run?
Just based on your posting that would be one male to one female gender ratio. The suggested gender ratio for ducks is 1 drake to every 3-4 females. Anything less can result in over breeding of the female and possible injury. Also, anytime you have more that one drake with females around the drakes will fight, sometimes pretty violently. I would suggest getting more females if you plan on breeding them. If you do not plan on breeding then you may want to rehome some of the males.

I have been looking for some more females, dont really want to chance getting more straight run babies, without much luck :( if we do have an even split it will be hard to decide who stays & who goes to the freezer or another farm.

Need advise we currently have an 11x11 run with a 5x10 coop connected to it for 5 bantam hens and 2 reg size roosters and 4 reg hens someone is wanting to give me 6 ducks with their own pool and large house the house can easliy be connected to our run from the outside but how much space am I really needing for everybody to be happy letting them free range isnt an option for all the predators that live around here

How much room can you give them?

Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks recommends 25 square feet per duck if they are only in that pen all the time, a little less if they can get out on pasture regularly.

We dont free range our chickens because of so many coyotes and fox here where we luve the surrounding pasture in the bsck does have 2 large ponds with wild geese but that is someone elses land but they wouldnt mind im worried they will get killed or run to the ponds and not come back the person im getting them from has had them in a pen since they were new babies they have never been loose 3 are laying already and 3 are almost 3 months old
