The Duck Thread

Just want you to be safe. If your using permethrin it isn't safe for cats to be around it. And is actually the synthetic version of pyrethrum which is made from chrysanthemum. It was made to be more stable in sunlight than the original version.
I'm definitely looking into fly predators myself. As my flock volume grows so do the flies and I feel like I can't ever set enough traps. Maybe large populations of carnivorous plants will help. ;)

Thank you. Have no cats here. Am deathly allergic to them. I bought one of those Venus Fly trap plants and put it in my kitchen window. It really does trap and eat flies:) That's the same way I feel but it's just around the duck pen which is right next to my chicken coop and senior quail pen yet the flies don't effect them. Only thing I can think is the duck pen backs up to where my neighbors backyard begins and they have alot of big dogs chained up (I know but they are renters & I have nothing to do with them)and 2 horses over there. Might be that somehow it causes that one area to draw the flies more.I do know that next to cockroaches, to me flies are the 2nd filthiest insect on the planet and trying to get rid of them has been an expensive pain in the derriere:)

I have guineas if you might be interested in a few feathers.  Just putting it out there.
Thanks. So all your chickens look like this one? Actually with chicken feathers, I usually keep the whole wing sections before disposing of any of mine that dies. It's easier to use as a canvas for them because they aren't super wide and are very soft. Not knowing your breed, the only thing I could try is to take a few feathers and glue them together side by side. I'd love to try them out, but would need to know what you'd be charging for them. And thank you so much for asking:) I'll see if I can put up a photo of one of my painted feathers for you to see if that is acceptable to do in this group.I actually have one of a chicken:)
