The Duck Thread

@Miss Lydia isn't that mama duck adorable?! She is so sweet! And a great mom too.

We'll be able to tell the ducklings sex somewhere around 4-6 weeks, right? Total size of duck and legs start to differ around that time, right? Males bigger.

She makes the most adorable chirping sounds to them. Lol. Those ducklings are so cute I can't stand it! Lol. I still love my duckies too, though.

I am in love. Look at that precious mama talking. I could not stand the cuteness of your ducklings either. Too much to deal with...

What are the dividers for A?

I agree duckies1230 is caring and conscientious but I wouldn't want her to get burned out working to keep everything spot free,
some times that makes folks want to throw in the towel so to speak.
Yes, we want folks to enjoy their duckies for the long haul! The dividers are for keeping Bean and his girls in their own room at night. I have puppy pen fencing up, but without visual dividers, I have ducks poking at each other. sigh. I love them. But they toss their manners out the window when hormones rage.

@ Miss Lydia yes my ducks eat cooked eggs, I think its a lil strange lol but I was reading everything you and Amiga said so I might change a few things, I really don't spend that much time cleaning, we have our morning routine and bedtime routine. I also have an 18 month old daughter and live a house with a tenant on the first floor so he uses the basement too so, I can't have a mess or any odors or my duckies have to go bye bye. Plus, my husband thinks our daughter could catch a "duck" disease! Which is hilarious but I humor him instead of arguing, he is slowly coming along! But thank you for wanting to make my life easier, I appreciate it a lot!

@Amiga I have been reading everything you said, the vinegar instead of bleach would be better. Is there any certain kind of vinegar? I only have bedding in their "bed" and I spot clean so I only change it all on Sunday during my big clean which is my day off from work so that's my big cleaning day for my house and everything! Ive been building a fenced in garden for them so if I work daylight they can still go outside, I still need shelter for them, I was going to buy a pet gazebo but changed my mind. Do you or Miss Lydia have any ideas?

They really do throw caution to the wind with those hormones out of control ! Thanks for explanation.

I use white vinegar for cleaning all drinking and eating containers and for cleaning out my pools.

Are you talking about something for your ducks to sleep in outside over night? It doesn't have to be anything fancy unless you want it to be just secure and functional with plenty of ventilation. Go to the search at top of page and type in duck houses you'll see all kinds from not to secure to little fort knox. I like secure.

I buy white vinegar by the gallon, and add several drops of essential oils for a little something extra.

I built a Day Pen that has fence top, bottom, and sides for when I am not out with the duckies. At night I still bring them into the walkout basement. In my perfect world, I would have a direct connection between Day Pen and night shelter. Working on a better design. But what we have works well.

I can't figure out how to add a quote and answer it directly. I'm sure my 4th grader could, but then I'd have to admit, once more, to being old.

the pen in the garden would only be a day pen. My baby's are inside at night, I don't trust predators and they need to feel safe, they let me know when they want to be inside even during the day
