The Duck Thread

This a great build. Definitely giving me ideas galore. I always enjoy seeing how others builds turn out. How close to what you had in you head before starting? Mine always seem to stray a bit from the original plan.

Thanks!! We were puzzled over the roof for a while. We used those wavy looking aluminum (or are they steel of some sort?) panels. They overlap onto each other by about 5" or so. They're screwed into "joists" and caulked along the seams. We've had way too much rain, but it has stayed dry inside. We also got lucky and found the screen door for like $20. Otherwise, very close to the original plan. You can see the one board at the bottom is green. I'm experimenting with colors. Going to paint over the green.

Haha just noticed the door. I have the same one on my porch. Lol. Oh the little things in life.

Love that door! At first we were thinking it would need a gate. Well, with the upper part also enclosed, I would have had to duck under to walk in through a gate. If I had to do that right now, I'd probably slip on the mud and bust my behind.

I took my oldest daughter to swim practice at the crack of dawn. She swims at the local water park which happens to be right next to the town duck and goose pond. I don't know why I torture myself, but I had to check for dumped ducklings again. This is new!!!

Makes me so mad. She's really sweet and came up to the car, but when I got out, she stayed just outside of my reach. Don't know what I thought I'd do with her if I caught her.... I'd love to take her home but the DH would flip. Lol. Her left eye didn't look quite right either. The drake to duck ratio is awful so I'm sure she's not having a great time. I've seen an Ancona, a blue Swedish, crested cuyaga, tons of pekins and now this cutie. All but 3 are drakes. That's not counting the mallards. I just know the others have been dumped for sure. Makes me want to punch those people in the throat!!

Agh, I wonder if the general public know about B.Y.C. At leat post up to find a god home.. I totally understand how you feel.. We have a few duck park's around here..I saw a few silver Swedish there.. There are rescue places in just about every city, they could of dropped them off there? Who knows, I pray there are people out the feeding them nutritious duck food.. One large park has the duck crossing sign's and they get irrigation.. It nice to see them out there digging in the irrigation for bug's.. If she was hand raised, maybe try to feed her then have a net.. You must have a rescue or a friend that would take her.. :idunno not that you want to add a adventure to your day.. It seems every once & a while we get a animal adventure just happen.. We got a neighbor that found a peach faced love bird yesterday.. Gave us a call.. People know to call the animal lovers.. :highfive:

Well while I was at work last night, the drain in my basement clogged and the basement flooded so JoJo and Charlie are now upstairs. :he I was up till 1 am moving stuff and trying to get the water out, it won't quit raining which is causing the problem. What to do...what to do...:idunno

Not sure if you watch the news, but Arizona was on the national news for our flood last year.. Whole communities were under water.. Torrential rains, our ground could. It soak up the water fast enough.. We almost went out and bought a swamp pump, that might help in times like this. ?

Need some help with my Pekin jerk face.
I have 12 ducks, 3 are 12 weeks old and 9 are 9 weeks. The three older ones have been together since I brought them home, three weeks later I got the other 9. Each set was in different brooders that were near each other, they could hear and see each other but were separate.
A month ago all the ducks were moved outside, each group in their own small coops that share a hardware cloth wall. I have been taking one or two older ducks and putting them in a large kiddie pool with two or three younger ducks. Every one gets along fine EXCEPT the Pekin. He is a big jerk face to my two female buff's and three of my female swedish. There is only one male in with the younger group. The Pekin is the only male with the older group. In a week all the ducks are supposed to be moved to the large coop and run, but I don't want the Pekin with everyone else if he is going to be a jerk to the younger ones.

This last weekend he grabbed one of the females by the neck and was trying to hurt her and then he went for her wings when I got him away from her. Yet at night, Mr.Jerk face is curled up next to the younger ones sleeping next to them.

What can I do??

Breathe, let yourself feel a little sad - I try not to get angry with Bean when he is a twit. It's hormones. And a few times, even my angels, my Runner girls have disappointed me with their hormone-driven behavior.

And I would not give up. I would plan on timeouts for Mr. Jerk Face. Let him be near, but not with for a while. If he is okay with the olders, let him hang out with them. Or even, one buddy one night, a different buddy the next night. You could also try holding him gently but firmly down by pressing on him (like he would with a female). Or, hold him (make sure he cannot flail his wings or grab you if he decides to get ugly - but I don't know for sure he would do that).
