The Duck Thread

Bahaha! I think that means they have kissable ears!! There's also a chance I have been forcibly autocorrected!
They do have kissable ears. I have seen ducklings chase full grown adult ducks all the way around the house. it's hysterical how something so tiny can scare them half to death. kind of like the mouse and the elephant.

one of my dogs is a pit bull, she tries to mommy anything smaller than her... Except ducklings. Ducklings toddling around cause Jinxx to spend hours running for her life! Scary little fuzzies!

Aww, well that's better than wanting to eat them, which I have to watch for with mini dachshunds and babies they are fine with adults but for some reason that peeping sets them off.

Tiggy got his drake feather!!! I wish Chibs' tail was visible behind him, but hers is still straight, so I'm pretty sure now that I have 3 girls and 1 boy. Can't believe it took me 12 weeks to be sure! LOL

HELP!!!!
I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me what breed my four month old ducks are. A family friend knew I was looking for Welsh Harlequin ducks so he bought 3 "welsh harlequin" ducklings from an animal auction and dropped them off while I was at work. They looked like Silver Appleyard ducklings. This is them the day he dropped them off.

As they aged they got darker and darker.

Then their colour started resembling more of a Khaki Cambell.

As of a few days ago, they're started to go blue on their wings.

We have since gotten Welsh Harlequins from a reputable source.
So my questions is...WHAT KIND OF DUCKS ARE THESE?
They're beautiful and I love their personalities but I would just like to know what they are.
They look like Rouen's to me now but they didn't as babies. They looked like Silver Appleyards as babies but now they don't. In between they looked like Khaki Cambell's. I'm so confused lol. Maybe they're a cross? Any ideas?!

@The Raw Mama - they're adorable! I'm thinking they're Rouens crossed with something else...KCs or SAs?

@WVduckchick - Yippee!! Congrats!! That's the same gender make up of my duck family.

Good morning, I put duck eggs in the incubator on Monday temp and humidity have been stable I have two thermometers going. When should I candle the eggs? I want to make sure I get any eggs out that may explode... I removed two oozers on Tuesday. Scared of the stinky mess I read about. The incubator has a smell not a very stinky smell but more of like a farm smell...is that ok

That farm smell is probably normal hopefully incubator experience will chime in. I candle as early as day 5 That is with using a live incubator.

Well my Cayugas just had an outing into the big field for a grasshopper picnic. Boy did they have a feast...and so early in the day. There were probably several hundred grasshopper that met their maker this morning. Funny too that they have begun to slack off on their egg laying. Where they used to lay 14 eggs to 14 females in their pen overnight they are now only laying maybe 5 in the pen and another 5 or 6 in their little field. Well this a.m. as they ran out to get the grasshoppers a couple of them just dropped an egg in the big field without even slowing down. Just shows that a duck will lay an egg whenever the urge hits without any concern about where they are.
