The Duck Thread

Mattie, It genuinely hurts me to say this, but the duckling probably didn't make it. Watch it very closely for a minute and see if you can see any signs of it breathing. They sometimes don't breathe in and out normally during hatch but instead seem to stop breathing, then take a big gasp of air.

May we know where you got your eggs? If they were shipped eggs, that can be a real challenge, but still doable if you get them from the right people. We can help you start it over again and hang with you through it if you want to do that.

Unfortunately I think you are right! :(

I had 12 eggs in total from 2 different supplier but they were both shipped!

I was so happy when one survived as I thought they were all lost causes but shouldn't have gotten my hopes up as now I'm devastated!

It won't put me off though I will try again in a couple of weeks, would it be better to see if I could find some local eggs?

Thank you for helping me and being honest, it's better to know!

Local eggs would be much better if you can find them. Shipping is really hard on eggs and if you can find eggs locally there's a much greater chance they'll hatch.

Pic overload! Thy are all so cute! Y'all and those calls... I wish the weren't so hard to hatch and so loud!

As for anyone you suspect that is trolling, report and don't engage. That is what they want, to get everyone worked up. When no one responds it isn't fun anymore.

Thanks everyone for your support on that other thread :hugs

Does anyone know how to teach ducks to use a ramp? My geese took to it right away but the ducks, not so much. The pekin I think will pick it up, but my drake I'm not so sure of. He originally came from a very bad situation and doesn't really have any experience with these types of things. He doesn't even accept treats such as mealworms or peas because he had no experience with them and doesn't really know what to make of them, so using those to lure him up the ramp is out. He does like bread, which I give them very sparingly, but so do all my other birds so trying to make a trail up the ramp with bread is just going to result in the chickens and geese cleaning it up before he can follow it up, lol.

Our Peking drake wont use the ramp to the pool, but the other 6 do not have a problem. When their large coop is finished they will have a pond not a pool.

Well, I kept meaning to join this thread anyways, lol...

Gotta show off my babies as much as I can...

I love your Calls, RavynFallen. They are beyond words for just simple cuteness. Please keep posting pictures of them.

Lol, pictures I can get behind!

There are some goslings in there - I didn't think anyone would mind

Pyxis; wow. Very cute. Very adorable and very much in need of me to kiss all of them. The goslings are so sweet. Your sleeping WH is an angel. I can't handle this.

EEeeeeeeeeeeeeBeeeeeeep, do you have any idea what this does to me? The little darlings are in perfect sync of web with each other. And the fact that they are snuggling so close together is so cute and sweet. I love their names.
