The Duck Thread

Hello everyone. I have kept chickens for years. I did have a duck as a child, but kept it at the neighbors with their ducks and did not have to deal with the primary care. I planned on not getting ducks until next year and having their spot all set up ( no matter how much begging from my daughter). It seems my dh was not so strong willed. He brought these cuties home.
I have been reading through the threads on here for info on ducks. I'm sure ducks are like chicks...and hard to tell what kind until they get feathers....but if anyone has any ideas on what kinds of ducklings are black please share.

thanks!

I believe them ducklings are a dark chocolate color not black and if so they are Khaki Campbell's a wonderful egg producing duck and small great foragers that you are sure to enjoy .....

I lost most of my sight last year so if they are black let me know but I believe they are chocolate color .....

I have 6 mallards. They are 4 to 5 weeks old right now. I have a lot of chickens and always have more from spring to fall, then I butcher extras that don't make the cut.
I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but do have some questions. I plan on over-wintering them in the coop with the chickens. They can free range in the winter. I feed fermented feed, it is layer feed, cracked corn and BOSS. Is that something the ducks can eat when they are old enough for layer?
Thanks:)
Yep sure is.

Thanks miss Lydia and Gander for your feedback. I'm wondering if my photo is showing the true color. I have them under a red heatlamp that may be skewing the color. To my naked eye they look black. I wouldn't complain if they were kacki Campbell's though

. I am hoping they are Cayugas.
If solid blk then they must be Cayuga's

My Cayugas don't look that chocolate color under red heat lamp. And the yellow patch on their chest seems to be getting smaller, like it's darkening up. I'll try and get pics of my Cayugas and post them. They are a week and a half old now.

My phone is only letting me upload 1 picture at a time, :rant

This picture was taken under red heat lamp with flash.

Just noticed 1 of my ducklings is getting pecked on.
