The Duck Thread

They can't have a lot of protein, to much protein will cause them to get angel wing.

Thanks, I'm going to have to call the feed store and see how much protien is in the started feed I bought. I'm sure like 2 mealworms would be ok though right?

Ok I'm a beginner and most everything I read is different. So for those of you using a forced air incubator what do you set your humidity at for the first 25 days and then at lockdown. I'd rather hear from people who have had successful hatches rather than reading on the internet. Thanks.

2 meal worms per week, not every day. I was giving mine ALL you can eat mealworrms when they were little OMG, sure enough they got angel wing, I had to tape them up, after three days, problem solved but less on the meal worms now.. LOL

If you go to my website www.lwbarnhouse.com, click on the duck tab, I have TWO different methods that I have used in hatching calls. They are tough buggers, but either method will work for any kinds of ducks.

My preference is the Lazy Method..

Here are my Cayuga ducklings following my crested mallard Ebony around. They think she is their momma, lol.

Hi! I'm new. I have three ducks, a Mallard and two Rouens. Story: was out to lunch with some co-workers, when we found a duckling frantically looking for his 'mom' in the parking lot. After not finding any momma ducks with babies at the local water feature, I took him home. I read a lot about how to care for them, and learned that he would need a friend. I went to the feed store and bought two Rouen ducklings to be his buddy. (side note: both Rouens are crested... I didn't know what that meant, or the consequences of the deformity. Live, learn, and don't make the mistake again...) Their names are Winston (mallard, 4 weeks), Walter (smaller crest, 3 weeks), and Winona (larger crest, 3 weeks). They are living the duckie dream with the koi pond, fenced back yard, and bird dogs that tolerate them! They sleep in the garage, and are pros at leaving and going back to their house. Thanks for all the information here, I have learned so so much.
