The Duck Thread

Good Grief! I have a pip! I candled all of them today...saw no internal pip! What? And it's weird..at least to me. It's pip is inward..and cracked along the egg..that baby must have pushed extra hard. Not the wait..how long until zipping on these call/rouen ducks? I've heard at least 24 hrs..? I'm used to doing chicks, I'm a nervouse wreck since I'm hatching these for a family that lost the mom duck to a racoon. :/

Here's a couple of photos of the egg..hope you can see it..if you look close, you can see the cracks too..

Had my hubby hold the flash light for me at a better angle..here are a couple more photos.

Would this be possibly a mallard or rouen duckling? It seems large in comparison to week old turkey poults. Also does anyone know if there are any issues with having a duck in with turkeys or chickens? I know about blackhead being an issue in some areas between chickens & turkeys.

Looks like the egg may have rolled into something and and cracked. Is there still movement inside the egg?

You know what I think I did? I tapped too hard! I thought and thought. Then I remembered that I had tapped on some of the eggs to see movement. They really do look as though they have some time left in them. They have the thick large vessels too. And, when I candled them, no internal pips, in any. I think I do have around 5 to 7 days left. The air sac is dropping. So, pretty close. That egg is still rocking.so baby is still good.

Looks liek a Muscovy duckling to me, where did you get it? and only thing you need to be concerned about with putting the duckling in with Turkeys and chickens is they may pick on the duckling so be watchful if you decide to do it. Sure is a cutie and a duckling friend would be better for it.

you'll need to seal the cracks if it's not ready to hatch. I use finger nail polish

My son won it in a kids rodeo event. We already have the brooder set up for 4 turkey poults. We put duck in with them & they looked at it like it was an alien at 1st, but now they are getting along SO amazingly well! The turkeys snuggle right up to duck!

That look's like a muscovy I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.
