The Duck Thread

@miss lydia should I just give up on my ducks with sitting? She shares a nest with my other female, and now they have 19 in the nest. It's been over a week now. I've been getting advised to let nature take it's course and leave it, or to get them and incubate it myself.

irdk what to do.
If your in the US and your Scovys are young you may not get a broody till next year. when you say shares the nest do you mean sitting on it or laying eggs in the one nest.
19 is alot for a first time broody anyway. I'd take out the cleanest and incubate them in a bator if you want ducklings now but remember winter means ducklings will be inside for a long time.
Explain what you mean by it's been over a week now.
It's really hard to know when one is going to get the broody bug .

@Miss Lydia my scovys are 6 months old, and I live on Guam. It's just two seasons here: rain or shine. (No worries about winter)

Well I'm assuming my two ducks are sharing one nest, they're laying it in one nest. The first egg my duck laid was on dec15. It's been 2 eggs a day since then.
(If that makes sense?)

6 months is young but not unheard of for a Scovy to go broody, seems by now one of the other would with that many eggs in the nest. You could wait a little longer and see what happens, I'd still think about lowering the number though so who ever sits won't be over whelmed and have a better experience with her first hatch. Until one of them begins to sit 24/7 there eggs haven't begun to develop.

They both arrived alive and seem quite lively. Here are the pictures I promised:

:) I still have a couple questions. Is the pine shavings ok? They seem to eat it a bit, so would that be safe? Also I think the water bowl is good. They can jump in it but can easily get out because it's not deep. How does everything look? Any tips? Thanks! :)

If you don't mind them making a huge mess with the water or if you go away they may empty it and the should never be with out water when they eat. also I'd put down some clean old towels over the bedding for at least a week. The towels you can take out daily and shake wash and reuse some ducklings eat too much shavings. They are adorable Congrats!!

You will need to dry them off when they get wet, no mom To oil them so they're going to get soaked right through. If they seem to eat a lot of shavings you could just go for newspaper laid down in the bottom maybe... I'm no expert
