The Duck Thread

opps that's was ment to say cant fly, so its good that they cant fly :) so did you hand raise your welsh harlequins?
I have one that I got with my runners and white layer. They were all hand raised and she is the one that is least likely to come up to me and take treats from my hands. I was really disappointed since they are suppose to be the friendliest out of the group. Maybe as a whole they are I can't really say since I only have one. She is super pretty though and still friendly. I'm finding ducks tend to be indiuvals though and behave how they feel like not what their breed description says.

yeah I do find that each duck is usually different. I hatched out one of my Indian runners and raised her for about 2/3 weeks then I had to go away for 2 weeks so I put her with a broody and her chicks and when I got back she wasn't friendly at all.

I don't mind if the duck isn't ultra friendly but I do want to get close to it. with my ducks I con only get like 3 metres close from them before they run away

Welsh harlequins can't fly. I have runners, welsh harlequin, cayuga, white layer and a crested. My runners and the cayuga are the most friendly. The crested is the least but I didn't raise him. My welsh harlequin is not as tame as the others that were hand raised. If you want something that flys you will have to stick with bantam breeds such as Mallards, black East Indies and calls.

Muscovies can fly, too. Especially the girls.

My muscovies will fly. But maybe they aren't "pretty" enough for some. lol They are also REALLY friendly and fairly quiet. They are also fun to watch!
