The Duck Thread

The blue pair finally stood still long enough for a good shot =)

It rained last night and my duck's laying box got a little wet I made some changes to the coop to protect a little better from the rain. WIll the rain damage the eggs? .......The storm was bad lots of lightning and thunder. She has four eggs and has been laying everyday since Sunday, except for last night. Could it be that she got spooked with the weather?

If they get a little wet probably not a big deal if the nest stays dry. This is a question for the hatchers among us.

I'm 98% sure I have A male and a female. Charlie is loud and quacks non stop, there is no doubt in my mind she a girl. Jojo is timid and quiet. His quacks are very soft, he don't talk a lot at all and when he does he's very soft spoken I guess u could say. I always thought he was the girl so I'm kinda looking for hope still...lol doesn't have the curl but I don't think hez old enough to have it, yet today he quacked so loud, I was upstairs and heard him. I know it was jojo BC I know their voices! So all that points towards him being a boy, right? Is it OK to have only two , the male won't hurt the female, will he?

Have you heard these sounds bites? http://www.majesticwaterfowl.org/artquacks.htm That should help tell you if you have a boy or not.

So are you saying she is broody and sitting on eggs to hatch them... Or did she just skip a day of laying an egg? I dont think a little rain will hurt the egg, if it's for eating. If she is sitting, the storm could have easily affected her laying and skipped a day. If she is sitting and you are worried whether they got too wet to hatch, I would doubt it would hurt them. Momma can go into the water and come right back without hurting them. Her body will regulate it, I would think. Some hatchers regularly mist duck eggs while incubating, so it should be fine. Good luck!

I love how loud and nonstop Charlie is with her quacking. Not knowing anything about ducks at all I wonder that if JoJo is a boy and kind of timid now if that timidness will carry over as he matures? And even when he becomes hormonal but is still timid by nature, will he be aggressive towards Charlie, or not? Now I am curious. Does anyone know? Sorry to hijack your post, duckies1230 but I have heard stories from others where their males are aggressive towards their girls.

I mist my duck eggs twice a day while incubating and they hatch great ;) a little rain won't hurt a duck egg...or mud ;)

lol...I'm curious as well. Charlie is the boss no doubt. I often wonder if jojo is so timid BC of his illness or whatever you wanna call it, but fingers crossed he is still going strong. I'm reading through other threads wondering if they will have babies, if she will be broody or if she would be a good mama since she is so bossy. Or what if one day JoJo just wigs out on her... Wow. I'm way too attached to my ducks. I think way to much about everything!
