The Duck Thread

Pls post some pics of your muscovies! I am expecting my first batch to hatch Wed, but won't have any idea what to do if mama doesn't want to participate. Also would like to confirm medicated chick starter for mama and babies or ???

FYI. There's not enough medication in medicated chicken starter to cause damages to ducks.

My Cayuga is laying an egg a day consistently there are now 17 eggs. She started laying about twenty days ago. I candled an egg but not sure what I'm looking at. It looked like there was a dark mass and within the mass a dark little notch. I don't think I saw veins...is it dead or will they be okay until she is done laying

Has momma started sitting on the eggs? Or is she still laying?

I would like to respectfully advise caution, nonetheless. We have a feed store in the area that accidentally gave the medicated chick starter to their turkey poults and ducklings last year. It killed all of them over night.

Thank you for the information and detail. Sounds heartbreaking

I would say a horrible slow death..

Wow, I had know idea they could lay so many!  (I'm a newbie and my girls are just 7 weeks old so we have a while to go before eggs start happening.)  Are you hoping mom with hatch them?
I'm new at this also. Raised my drakes from ducklings and purchased my female before spring. I had no idea she would lay so many. Now I'm worried about the eggs, I naturally think they go bad after a day or so of being outside but I guess not. I'm going to post a pic of my ducks and the candled egg. I need some advice
