The Duck Thread

If only kid's had the freedom we all had, we wouldn't so many problems with the younger generation.. In my opion.. My DH has the best stories of streaking naked threw the streets with his friends.. He tells the story to our boy's friends that come over & every time I laugh so hard my cheeks hurt.. But now you would be a pedophile, which I completely understand.. He even tells the story of when they would go to other neighbors homes and eat from their garden.. Plus the times they would use fishing wire and tie up cans full of rock's.. Wait for a car to drive by on a long stretch road, each person would be hiding in a bush on opposite sides of the street.. Hold the wire, with the cans at bumper length & off it went.. I guess they got a kick out of that..
We camp & no cell or tablets at all!! We all talk and hike, cliff jump, & mountain bike riding trails...Ect.. This is one of the cliffs we had fun jumping off of..
What a gorgeous place.

I got this photo from someone here on BYC.. I wish I had skills like they do..
Now to your question.. I would not bother then them while they are swimming, just enjoy them while they do it..
Make sure they do not get water logged..Do you have a stepping stones or a ladder for them to get out of? Just kep holding them & they will
start to warm up to you..we have the same thing going on here.. Our 2 that we have now are very easy to pick up.. I do like to be able to check on them if needed.. We also give them kitty kibble as a treat in the mornings.. We let them know we have a treat for them & they come running.. It is only one hand full.. They don't like it, but it's too bad.. We don't pick up our girl Lauren to much, mostly Rick.. He tries to nip at me when I am busy in the yard.. So we put in time out durring then.. He doesn't ever run away from me.. Hope this helps.. Post photos If you can..

As far as the swiming goes, they just get to swim around in my bath tub for now. I never leave their side while in there and watch them closely. When they stop playing and just stand around I pick them up and bring them back to their brooding box. I try to hold them, but they always fight me on that. As long as I'm not touching them they love to "talk" to me lol I'll walk in the room and say something like hi babies and they will start chirping and quacking at me lol. The biggest one, Clara, out of the four seems to be warming up to me more now and the other three are slowly following her lead.

This maybe a silly question, but will ask anyway. Our ducks are 16 weeks tomorrow (I know that maturity is 20-24 just trying to think & prepare for whats to come) 2 of our drakes seem very eager to reproduce, so should I let nature take its course and let the hens hatch any eggs? Or do the hens need to be a bit older to hatch ducklings?

Not a silly question. A great one. Hopefully someone will let you know soon.

When your ducks lay an egg, do they sit on it or walk away? In my experience, once a duck is broody enough to sit through the entire incubation, she will try and brood on even a single egg. She will also try hiding eggs in strange places so I don't collect them, and she may quack loudly and even nibble my legs when I find and empty the nest. She will also roll eggs from other ducks into her nest. Are your females making nests?
