The Duck Thread

The daily news on Duck Drama here in Arizona..
A friend text me with a photo of a Muscovy with a explanation of it's story.. She got the story from a manager of a resturant.. So, here ya go.. There is lake front apartments with restaurants across the lake.. This duck goes over to their patio where the patrons are eating & supposedly feed her.. AND of course it is probably just bread & what not.. & the not is NOT veggies.. Poor little girl.. So I tried to call the resturant before I left the house to get the details from the manager..no answer. SO, she said that the manage said the tenants raised only one duck, yes, just a single duck.. Bizarre..:idunno
I explained to her that I did not want anyone to be upset if we went out to re-home this duck, oh & she did say that people were abusing her, like kicking her to leave.. I guess you can pet her..
Well we get there & can't find her..:barnie so we go in & it's busy, 20 people out by the lake front eating and a line to order.. Finally we get to talk to the manager, & he is like!! "I told her that the duck belonged to a tenant over there in those apartment's.. !!" & gave us a weird look, like what are you doing here? So I said oh okay.. Can you imagine them calling the police & I get in trouble for trying to help.? So I did see across the late some Peking duck's.. This Muscovy has no flock, that's obvious. my friend explained to the manager that it needed a better place to live.. She said, he said, yes to that, but when we were there that is not what he said to me.. Anyho, I explained to her that at his point I did not want to cause any trouble. Although I will go back on a later date. Today's duck drama, untill the next animal adventure...
The End

They both look the same.. Younger egg's typically are smaller in the beginning..

Do Rouen & Peking eggs look similar? Since this is our first time with ducks I am not sure. If I had to guess I would say the Rouens

Almost every single one. And the 3 she rolled out the last time were doubles. (Eggtopsy) we have one of the top agricultural colleges in town.... I'm tempted to call them and see if someone there might help document...?

Wow! How often does she lay? I'm sorry for all the questions, that is just so amazing and interesting to me! I have to wonder why??!?!

Ok, emailed the barn manager.... Wait and see...

Excellent! They have time to put together a plan. I would think they would jump on the opportunity!! Good luck!!!

Peep lays every day. I got the occasional egg during the winter after the second heat lamp was put in. She was the original duck that started me in this. She was dumped. I've narrowed her down to what I believe is mallard! She's a good mom too. She's not hand tame, but all my birds come to the shake of the treat dish! She doesn't fly away, but can fly. Her eggs are light blue and large chicken size. She's a pretty little thing. Nice bright orange bill and feet. Always looks nice and smooth. And she's a busybody! When she's not sitting, she's toddling around chatting and bossing! Her and my brown mallard females remind me of 3 little old ladies... Walking all over, gossiping and giving stink eye to the younger ones!!! Her and Big Momma (jumbo pekin, no eggs...) share mom duties. When peep wants to go somewhere, she would call Big Momma over with the babies and leave them with her. Lol, babbling! But that's Peep! I didn't realize how strange the doubles thing was until someone here told me.

LOL...3 little old ladies. How many adult ducks and ducklings do you have now? Their distinct personalities are so funny. I have one that's definitely the bossiest and one that's much more mischievous than the others. My drake is the friendliest (dreading those hormones kicking in) and he spends more time with the quiet laid back Rouen.

I'm crossing my fingers that some organization will help you track/record progress because I'm hoping to see some hatching in action!
