The Duck Thread

I'm not entirely sure if they still have feathers coming in as I thought they were both done until they molted again. However I could be wrong my first time owning ducks so I'm learning as I go!

This is where I'm focused. It gets blurry, but those feathers look like they're still filling out. I would also check for mites. But barring that... I personally think they just need to grow into them! My opinion only. Do they have a place to bathe and flap their wings?

I included the pictures it might be hard to see he was being difficult but hopefully you can tell

Do they hang like that all the time? do you notice him adjusting them at all? When drakes are growing in their flight [blood] feathers they get very heavy and will let them droop then adjust them next they are hanging again then they adjust. this goes on till they have gotten the muscles strong enough to hold those wings at the right level. It doesn't look like angel wing which is when the wings stick out like a hitch hikers thumb. How old is your duck[drake]

Just the one wing on the right hangs like that. He is constantly adjusting it especially when it brushes the ground so he is always moving it trying to pick it up it would seem. He is about about 3 and 1/2 months old now and recently got his first set of feathers so it could be he is adjusting to the weight of them. I am hoping it wasn't anything serious and something that would go away on its own.

Well hopefully that is what it is. You could always wrap it so it doesn't drag on the ground but that would interfere with him building muscle, so keep an eye on it just in case something else maybe going on, could he have injured it at all?

I have a question for y'all. Have you noticed that you ducks stop laying when it gets hot? I'm getting less eggs this week but we are almost at 100 degrees. Also do ducks molt their first year? They were born in Dec so should I expect a fall molt this year or will it start next?

It's 107' here & Lauren is leaving a surprise every morning like clock work..:weee

I wish we could see that on video!! How far from where she was & how many egg's?

Only about 3'. I didn't see it. She did it overnight. It is just so bizarre. And I don't see a reason for it. She hasn't left her nest today, but because of that, I'm assuming she moved her eggs too. I did find a few threads where this has happend before, but they're older threads and I haven't gotten a response from the one I responded to. But, not unheard of. I was hoping to find out if the other peoples eggs had still hatched.
