The Duck Thread

How cute! Oakley and Pogo having some snuggle time with dad in the garden today They found their kale plant. We planted normal kale and dinosaur kale, neither of us like the dino kale so it was designated duck kale haha. They love it. Pretty sure we have a boy(pogo) and a girl (oakley). Oakley quacks for sure.
My ducks will not have any type of human touching. They go nuts when we go in the pen to clean it daily. Chances are this is going to mean a duck vs us race to catch the 3 younguns to sex them.And the ducks might win as we are not young ourselves:) With the next ones I plan to have plenty of human contact with in hopes of having such illusive birds.Live and learn.{sigh}

Sweet, sweet little things getting a snuggle and then having their own 'wild' organic kale. You do a great job providing for them. Cute.

What cuties!
My WH ducks have stopped laying eggs. Is this unusual for a duck to do this? My mama duck quit laying after her ducklings hatched but that was months ago & she's not laid an egg since. Now both girls have stopped. We still have the 3 kids in the pen but gosh they are close to adult size now. I still can't tell what their genders are, but at what age does a duck usually start laying eggs? Is this common with WH? I read they are on the endangered list. Could this be a reason why? Here's a pic of all 6 of them. My seniors are my drake and 2 hens.If anyone can tell me how many males vs females they see in this pic, it would be most appreciated and helpful.Thanks

Is it hot where you are? I'm on my phone so can't see pics all that well. Do they quack or are they raspy? That is the easiest way to tell. I have 5 ducks and within the last week all but 2 have stopped laying mostly due to heat. It has been over 100* out though. My welshie started laying around 22 weeks.

Thank you, that means a lot! I try but being a first time duck parent you always wonder if you could do more!

Dogs, Parrots, cats...I have those down to a science but ducks are new yet :)

Thank you everyone else as well!

Does anyone have any good ideas for female names? We will be getting our three new Muscovies this week sometime!

Currently our girls names are: Penelope (aka Little duck), Luna, Oakley and our boys are Willow, Wobbles and Pogo.

Could any one help me, two of my six, 11 week old ducklings have problems with there beaks and also there feet look unhealthy.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
.

You need to take them to a vet IMMEDIATELY. That looks like one heck of a nasty infection, and if all your birds have it, only hard core treatment regimen can help them. How on earth did they get into that state? How long has it taken to get this bad?
