The Duck Thread

So friends, I need your expert advise. My 2 WH ducks have totally stopped laying. It's still very hot here -heat waves 100°+. Still can't figure out if my 3 babies who are now almost as big as the parents are girls or boys but everyone gets along great-one big happy duck family of 6:) I'm pretty sure the adults have gone through molt already,so don't feel that would be the reason for no eggs. They are all healthy too. All advice welcome. Thank you.

I hope they do hatch. I'm so bummed about the missing duckling

I don't know if they are just muscovy or mixed. The crested white and mystery duck are drakes and I also have a muscovy drake.

I figure 3 Males for 5 females is too much so i ordered some female blue sweedish ducklings.

If they don't hatch could i replace the eggs with the ducklings i ordered? Will mama duck care for them?

This is mama duck. Her name is Rambo
she is a very cute duck bird.

I am in agreement with lynnhill. Both ladies are cute.
Aw, shucks. Thanks, dear lamp!

Awe, thank you for telling them! Now that I know a few familiar names in here I will come in here more often.

Good idea!

I've read that heat & stress can cause them to stop laying. Other than that, I'm no help. My girls aren't laying yet, but I'm hoping they come through soon.

It's unfortunately not likely. She's more likely to attack them unless the Muscovy acts differently from other ducks. Ducks don't know ducklings or where the ducklings came from. Broody ducks communicate with the ducklings while they're still in the eggs, and the ducklings communicate back. That's what they consider "their" ducklings. They don't base it on who laid the eggs. Isn't that weird but kind of neat at the same time?

PS If you breed Muscovy with other types of ducks, their ducklings can't produce more ducks in the future. Just throwing that out there.

That's real interesting! Our female turkey, Carlotta, adopted two baby turkeys, so I thought maybe Rambo could do the same

Awesome news though: ANOTHER DUCKLING HATCHED!!! And the door is fixed!

It's ok if they don't have offspring. I love em
