The Duck Thread

These are Lao Tze Duck and La Chocolata. They are the bff's since they were ducklings, both male.

I've never seen them more than about a foot appart, they swim together, forage together, sleep bundled up to each other. So yes, most definitely

I have a trio of males that are tightly bonded! They scuffle a little (boys will be boys!) but they stick together like glue.

Yay!!! My ducks laid me a egg I didn t think I was gunna get one til next spring but I got one now to get a incubator I'm so exited

Yay!! I didn't expect them until spring either, but got my first one on 9/2, and one every day since!

LOL...Yay for all of us!! I got my first egg on 9/10 and every day since.

Please don't forget...deadline for "other poultry" picture submissions is tomorrow. I know I've seen some wonderful pics on these threads that haven't been submitted yet...

Hello, we have a broody duck for forst time, and the eggs should be about to hatch, but lately she has been taking out one egg a day, yesterday we found a broken egg with a normal looking duckling inside. Today broken egg empty, the white inside seemed to be rotten. Is it normal for them to put out the "off" eggs out before the others hatch? Once they are born is it necessary to provide a pool right away? We are afraid they will drown!!
Thank you for your help!!!

No pool yet. And once they are about a week old they can practice playing in water with a clean paint tray. then mine graduate to a cat litter pan from there to the pool.and always provide a safe way in and out of the pool so they don't sit in the water too long and get hypothermia.

Some say their mama ducks take out rotten eggs I haven't ever had that with any of mine but the one you found in the shell fully formed could have been an accident or it was beginning to hatch and mama freaked out which can happen with first time moms. So keep a close eye if it's close to hatch day so you can be ready to intervene if mom is having trouble accepting the hatch.

Welcome to BYC!!
