The Duck Thread

Really? Campbells are pretty chill. I was thinking of getting some welsh cause I thought they were the best layers

I'm getting blue sweedish ducklings and a couple of cayugad for sure cause they're so cute, but wanted to get some layers cause i've read sweedish and cayugas don't lay so many
Yes, most strains of Campbells are very prolific layers. I never kept track of exactly how many ours laid, but it was just about every day year-round.

What kind of feed does everyone give their ducklings and the ducks? I was reading they need a different kind then chicks do. Thanks ;)

We use Mazuri feed. I've seen that many people on BYC who have mixed flocks use Purina Flock Raiser.

When it is a mixed flock I use Purina Flock Raiser or DuMor grower/finisher (15% protein). I usually add a TBSP of Brewer yeast/nutritional yeast to the feed for the first 10 weeks if ducklings are also eating the food. It won't hurt the other to eat it either.

Thanks :) what is the brewers yeast for? I was reading they need naicin suppliments the first 2 weeks or so. So i didnt know if they needed a different food or not. But thats great to know!

They need added nician which is what the brews yeast is for and they need it for 10 weeks not 2.

Awesome :) thanks for the info. We ordered 12 long island hatching eggs and they sent me a message that they will be sending 3-4 dozen instead. Lol im trying to mentally prepare for that haha
