The Duck Thread

My two quackers Bubble & Squeek. They were given to me by a friend that could no longer keep them. The first few weeks were hard, learning what they needed everyday and I realised how much work goes into just keeping two haha! Its worth it! It sounds silly but these two have changed my life, I'm even losing weight. I love them so much. I'm feeding them veg, worms and duck feed (now pellets). They've warmed up to me and follow me around everywhere. They're even friends with the two sheep we have. The only issue I was having with them is one would peck the other while feeding but I now have two trays for them to eat out of. Hopefully I'm doing a good job, I had no idea what to do when I first got them haha. One dose have a pale bill and I was curious if anyone knew why that would be? The other has a bright orange. (Sorry for the long post) I appreciate any reply, tips, ect. .

Wonderful ducksies!! Good for you for giving them a home!! Ducks all have bill color variations. I'm not sure there's a reason for it. Nobody here my minds long posts and we all LOVE pictures!! Welcome to BYC!

When ducks hatch the duckling of a same breed will all pretty much have the same color bill. As they age and mature the males (drake), the one on the left in your picture, will usually change bill color to a pale green/yellow color while the female will maintain the original color.

Bubble and Squeek are adorable and will prove to be great friends to you, shounds like that may have already happened.

Bubbles and Squeek. Super dooper cute names for 2 very cute ducks whose orange webs contrast very nicely with the green grass.

Heehee. Yes. I am. It's the feets that tie in the whole cuteness of duck to the entire bird. You have round body, cute face, personality, then the webs. Perfect package of adorableness.

I noticed the eithen my male takes his time making sure hope gets around he guides her around the pen. What kind of veggies do you feed your ducks?

Sad day today. My husband is out culling two of the male mutt ducks we raised. I can't watch so I am just staying inside. But I know it has to be done. Five males to eight females is just too much. That will leave us with three drakes, which is still high, but the WH male has virtually no urge to mate. So I am hoping this ratio works out.
