The Duck Thread

You guys are all too sweet. Thanks for the kindness and encouragement. I am hoping I can do another treatment this evening. If so, I'll try to get more pictures. Dunno that it will look any better but fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed lovely

@Amiga I read that thread you posted. Makes me think I should get some colorless iodine. I wonder if you can use that in addition to vetericyn? It seems the iodine should only be used every three days so maybe vetericyn on the days in between? Maybe I should go post on that thread and bug Haunted55 about it, lol.

Hmmmm

Iodine and ammonia are in the clear iodine

Vetericyn contains bleach so I would not use them together.... Just to be really cautous about it.

I have read that bleach and ammonia combine to give off toxic gas.

Maybe saline...instead of Vetericyn. I wonder if the Vetericyn people could shed some light?

Hey guys,

I think my duck might be hurt.. Last night I went outside to lock them up and I noticed one of them ever so slightly limping. Should I be worried or just keep an eye on her to make sure it doesn't get worse?

Pick her up and take a look if you can. Let her swim or gently spray her feet off with a hose to you can see clearly. Looks for abnormalities and signs of infection. Feel her feet and legs for warmth or misaligned bones. It is always better to catch something early.

I'm so confused on what the best thing to do is. So many different tactics. Her feet and legs did feel warm but she had been swimming in warm water and then wrapped in a towel for quite some time. I dont have any antibiotics to get her and am not sure what would work best or where to get it.

I noticed one of my mallards limping a day before she went broody. She's behind the pool so there's really no way to get to her, and I wouldn't want to pull her off the eggs and break her broodiness. Just gonna have to hope it wasn't serious and wait until she's done hatching.

I can't wait to get the birds to the new house where they can be on grass most of the day. I think it would help prevent bumblefoot. But we can't start moving in until mid June, and can't put up a fence until we find a surveyor to tell us where we can put it. It could be July before we get them off the hard dirt pen and out in the grass. Sigh.

Yes, when the situation is less than ideal the decisions seem harder to make. Check her leg for heat again at different times. I thought Zwei's leg felt a little warm one day, then realized she had been resting with one leg under her and the other stretched out behind.

I just went out and checked on her again and she is refusing to use one of her legs and I felt it and it feels hot and looks kinda puffy. I'm not sure what to do I'm home alone and only 15... I picked her up and brought her inside with me or the moment until I know what to do.

I'll check for heat again today before I put her in a tub. Should have done that yesterday. I dont have goodone foresight but I do have great hindsight lol.
