The Duck Thread

Looks like mama hen is a good warming spot for your visitor.@Selsley Is there any writing on the band it looks similar to the ones i have used and they don't come with info. As friendly as it is and comfortable it is with your flock I say it belongs to someone who did clip wings. And it flew off.
yes year (16) set sideways then a number then 3 letters sideways (breeder) them another number followed by an F which could be for france, where we are. but when i try to look for a duck or ring register being english, there more interested in register for shooting ducks than who owns them lol..... we had a pig last yr that ran off and was found by a guy who had lots of ducks, so we're going to try him 1st, he would at least have info about where to report it or where a breeder register might be, at least

our dad had racing pigeons for years and the ring is very similar, so if the duck is sold it would have to be registered, its not a ring that shows its a pet, its a proper registery ring

France well that sounds interesting always wanted to visit. Love to visit the country side.

I hope you can find the owner if not will you keep the duck? you have chickens/geese any ducks?

no ducks, i think even the goose is male it was a problem goose, and we had a problem pig, although apart from initially, the goose has been find, last i saw the pig was happy too, but always wanted to bite us lol.... from what ive looked at online and the plain coloured hen, this duck seems brighter so could be a male too, but yes if we cant trace the owner we will keep it, but its taken up residence in the hatching nest which might be a problem later

looked for it this evening to try to check the ring, found it next to the little bantam with her chicks this was after she chased it off this afternoon when it got close, i put some hay near the door, and put it back in the coop but it went straight outside, just checked in the darkness and its back next to the bantam, all seems quiet, there is a barrier in front of the area to stop the other chickens eating her food, which she can get through, so im surprised to see that the duck did too, the gaps are only 70mm (3" ish) apart.
It looks quite happy, lol.

It needs it own space mainly because drakes if it is one sometimes will try to mate with chickens[hens] especially if there are no other ducks[females] around. It would be a death sentence for a chicken. So maybe a good reason to start looking for some female ducks wouldn't matter if they aren't the same breed. But just for companionship in case you get to keep him.

Nope not enabling just seeing what the future may hold.

awe, precious little living thing. I love her snuggled safely with her burd friend.

I think I have two mule ducks. Does anyone have any mules or know what characteristics I should look for? Of 3 eggs I incubated, two seem to be quacking and not showing any Muscovy face features whereas one is. They are 7 weeks old. I only have Muscovy drakes.

So far, I've been extremely pleased with my muscovies. They are very friendly and willingly eat out of my hand.
