The Duck Thread

For everyone's information!!!! News flash!!

I have been having trouble with my 4 Pekins getting in my flowerbed. They just destroyed it!!! Pulled new flowers out and dug holes to China!! I have tried for months to break them of messing with the bed, but no avail! It was just too yummy to them.

My husband got a high powered water gun that shoots a stream of water about 20 feet. I have used it once on them, I hate to say it but I nearly fell down laughing! There were wings flapping, feet scooting and LOTS of squawking going on when they got shot! BUT they have not gone back into the flowerbed, not once since then. It is amazing to me that they play in a pool, splash water everywhere, play in the rain, but ONE shot from the water gun and THE WORLD IS ENDING!!! I have now found a new way to discipline the ducks without hurting them!!! Yea!
LOL hope it keeps working. Ducks are always afraid of new things. (Mine were even afraid of cantaloupe - which they now love). My ducks will take a full blast at 20 feet with a garden hose (on tight stream) in the chest and consider it refreshing (they turn and face the water so it hits them square in the chest - or they waddle away if they don't feel like it, but it isn't scary anymore). Once your ducks get used to the gun, they may decide it is an awesome puddle maker that will help them reach China twice as fast.

I would put some kind of inexpensive decorative fence (with Pekins, a foot to a foot and a half high should do it as long as they can't push it over easily) around the flowers.

But shooting ducks with water is definitely fun

Today I had lots of paper work to do and the sun came out for a while so I went out in the backyard to work. As usual I was mobbed, but after a few minutes when the flock realized there were no treats to be had at the moment, they dispersed. Except for Allie and Roxette who decided they would hang with me and nap.

(For this picture I had to roll WAY back to get them both in, I was right next to the bottle.)

Extra pancaked just for @Juliebird ...

It's nice to know who your real friends are

Baby ducks really need food 24/7.
Since they mess up the brooder, go to a furniture store and get large boxes (i.e., dresser, night stand or refrigerator box) they are free. Put plastic on the bottom, Put puppy pads over the plastic then put large chunk shavings in. You will still have to change it ever day or so, but it will make it manageable, plus they don't seem to outgrow the boxes so fast.
Good luck, I hope you can get your baby to gain weight.

I dont have puppy pads i just have hamster pads which is sand is it ok?
Sorry but what is large chunk shaving?
