The duds... what do you do with them?

I would be careful about chucking eggs after only a week. I have 9 day eggs in the bator now...I candled after 6 days and 6 were clear. I was about to toss them and decided to wait the second week. I put them on the one row with no eggs so I would no which ones they were. Yesterday I candled again and saw beautiful activity in 3 of the eggs. THey still are not as dark in the middle as some of the other eggs but you can definitely see life moving around.

Just a thought...

I candle at day 4 then again at day 8 and if nothing by day 8 I open all eggs to see what happened inside then I bag then and trow them in the trash. I don;t have any dogs to feed my dud eggs to.

scrapmom - that's really interesting that they went from clear to embryos after day 6. I've never heard of that happening! Will those ones hatch later then? Anyone else have experience with this?

probably depends on the shell. If it is thicker or darker pigmented it is harder to see the early veining. I have birds that lay light eggs but the shell is so thick on some of them that you can't see the bubble even, until the chick is well along in developing. I don't toss eggs until I can tell for SURE that nothing is happening, like at two weeks in hard to candle eggs.

My hubby has taught our son that throwing eggs at the trees are fun, so bad one get taken care of that way.....if we know there was development, but they quit, we'll open them to see what happened
