You hit on a big part of what mystifies me about the Duggars and the Octomom. I can understand loving kids and wanting a big family, but I can't wrap my mind around this level of egotism. It's like that fertility doctor who inseminated his patients with his own sperm, except he tried to dodge any responsibility for the resulting children.

I love this family!! I like their values and morals - it would be one thing if they had all those kids and couldnt afford them or the kids were neglected in some way - but you can see love and respect for each other in every episode they do and you do NOT find that often in todays families even with one child!
If she feels her goal/purpose in life is to have babies and be a stay at home mom GOOD FOR HER!!!!!! as this role is becoming a rather scarce one in todays society and mocked with a raised eyebrow and a "oh really thats all you do"
As for the kids helping out I think that is a great way to have your family work. but that is just me.

My silkie must be just like Dugger mom. She doesn't even give herself a break and back wanting to brood again. And as happy as can be.

I also think there's a certain necessary narcissism to it to have that many children.

I also think it's sad that the older children are spending their childhood caring for children. Will they be good parents? Probably, they've had lots of practice. But (gasp), there's a whole heck of a lot more to life than just being a parent. Heck, just about any person can make a baby, it's not some miraculous or never-before-seen event, it's just nature.

I have had this same discussion with my sister. She thinks it's beautiful and natural. I think it's a perversion of the soul, and the ultimate expression of overwrought self-love.

She gets all he't up, and then we have to agree to disagree.

I am an accountant, so I think, "How sweet would those tax credits be?"

Then I look at my paycheck and think, "I barely make enough to support my family, but make too much to get govt assistance."
The DH hasn't been paid in months, and the lady at DES said I could get food stamps if I get pregnant again.

Umm...No thanks.

Mr. Duggar was in the legislature at one time, I think---so I have this dichotomy of morals going on. Babies are cool, I would have a ton more if I could---but what about social responsibility?

ANYWHOO: I do not want to start a rant.

I just wish they would name their kids something that does not start with the letter "J".

JEEZZZZ!!!!!

My cousin lives right down the road from them and she says they seem like good people.

OMG I don't know if I've ever heard a funnier comparison! Mrs. Duggar is a silkie!
