The EE braggers thread!!!

Recently ordered chicks and noticed that my EE's were actually .05 USD more than the Light Brahma pullets the demand must be there (because they are so awesome!)

I also noticed that one hatchery charges .60 - .70 more for roosters. Most hatcheries are practically throwing them out the door; especially, the layer cockerals like leghorns. Does anyone have an educated guess to what that is? My only thought is they have a good outlet for their extra boys.

Cute! I kept one of my ee chicks.from my breeding flock because i had only one Russian orloff hatch and i think they are both boys
Thank you and sorry you think yours are cockerels.

There are many differences that are common among all breeds. Such as, if you have a 4-5 week old bird with a reddened comb it is almost certainly male as no breeds have females that redden that early even breeds with large combs such as leghorn usually don't get RED until they are at POL and then you get a definite answer haha. Generally speaking most breeds the cockerals feather slower. There is also the red splotches on the shoulder areas of EE's that are almost certainly cockerels. Now none of these are 100% but even vent sexed birds are usually only garunteed at 90%. I know with the crazy genetics it is a little more of a gamble but there are ways that the genders of all chickens differ no matter the breed. Atleast that is my take on things.
x2! excellent advice. I know with my EEs the red ones are easiest to sex now my white EEs & Orps are harder for me.

I can't wait for saturday I have 6 eggs from EE, Mirror, in the incubator. I crossed her with my buff brahma roo, Zien. I hatched some of her eggs a while ago and 1 chick that hatched from her was the biggest when it hatched and has been since. Just to give you an idea of how big her chick was when it hatched, I also hatched a large fowl purebred blue ameraucana and it looked like a bantam in comparison to this gigantic chick!

anyone care to take a guess atthe sexof these?they are around 3to 4 weeks bought from the sexed pullet bin but want some opinions.

Just Picked up my EE yesterday had a bit of "Muck Butt" but other than that they are doing great! Lively little bunch. I think they are about 2-3 weeks not sure maybe someone could help me with that part. This is m first run of chicks so I am super stoked! They are supposed to be all hens.

Those are less than a week old. Mine looked just like that the day I got them (3-4 days). The wing feathers come in FAST and they can fly a little bit quite young.

TREX, wait for the wings and chest to fill in and then take a picture from the front and side of the whole chick. Some may think they can but I can't tell by the look in their eye. ;-)

Head shots that show the comb, and body shots that show the color/pattern across the back and wings are important in sexing them.

TREX, I had two almost identical to that and they both turned out to be boys. I did progression pictures for them so I could track how they turned out. See below. You can see they both started getting those white feathers early. A lot of chipmunk-striped EEs are duckwing based (it's a color pattern) where the silver version has the males feather out white and black.
