Most Easter Eggers aren't actually mutts. That would imply that they have Ameraucana or Araucana in their background. Not usually the case. In fact, quite the opposite is true. It's the Araucana and Ameraucana breeds that were derived from Easter Eggers.

I bought a 6 week old Ameracauna a couple of weeks ago and turns out she's an EE, I don't think the guy even knows he doesn't have true Ameracaunas because he showed me the parents proudly. Her name is Fleur cause she reminds me of a flower in both her delicate nature and delicate patterned feathers. I love her to pieces and I've only had her for 2 weeks, lol!

NOTHING wrong with EEs, I have 4 and they are great. You should, however, inform the guy you got them from that he does not have APA Ameraucanas. More than likely he got them from one of the big hatcheries that refuse to admit that they do not have APA Ameraucanas and sell their EEs under the name Ameraucana or Araucana. Anything we can do to cut off the false claims.

You will find 2 of the people who developed the APA Ameraucana (from birds which looked like what we would now call EEs but at the time were called Araucana. They were not an APA breed and had a mix of features, some "Ameraucana" and some "Araucana" plus others I'm sure) here on BYC. We are very fortunate to have their experience.

I cannot wait until Olive produces some eggs, I am just dying to know what color they will be. I really REALLY hope they are olive-colored eggs. Does the leg color have anything to do with egg color? I read it didn't but thought I'd ask anyway?

Nope, no correlation at all. Sorry, you will just have to wait. Do you know the parents? Generally speaking, unless she came from an Olive Egger, she won't likely be one unless one of the parents is a super dark brown layer like a Marans and the other has the blue egg gene. Others can give you specifics because I'm not sure if the gender/breed of each parent makes a difference.

If she lays blue are you going to change her name to "Blue"?

lol, right? I was secretly hoping if I named her Olive then the eggs would follow, haha JK. I have no idea about her parents, she came from a local feed store that told me she was an americauna. More than likely she will lay blue or tan (rats!) ... i'm still holding some hope though.....

Here's my two ameraucana (easter eggers). Cant blame the hatcherys. I wouldn't want to change their name either. sounds wierd and they're just trying to make money. cluade my rooster dust bathing

I breed clause to my hens. Mostly with my rsl. Out of the 11 chicks, all hens had green legs and all boys yellow. Was that just luck?
