The EE braggers thread!!!

Sorry I forgot to mention his father, his father was a Buff Orpington. I bought his mother from a neighbor who if I remember correctly, got her from Cackle. Underneath all his hackle feathers he has black columbian like markings. I am assuming he carries recessive white.

My partial grasp of color genetics leads me to believe he is black patterned silver columbia, just by his apperarance, but impure for it. I'm not sure if the lemon colored blush is from his buff heritage, or just corn/sun yellow showing because there is only one copy for silver. Pure silver, I think, usually completely blocks red or gold bleed and does not yellow out from corn being fed or sun exposure.
ETA: Of course this means his mother must be a silver columbia with some other patterning gene present to cause the scattering of black on her back

Thanks, yes he appears to be split for gold. So he should have one copy of recessive white from his mother right? Besides dominant white which seems unlikely, recessive white seems to be the only explanation. It will be interesting to see how his chicks feather out.

OK all you EE'ers!!! i bought 3 EE from MPC in November.....new years day one of them crowed. the other two are definite girlies. i rehome the roo (no easy task) and wait and wait and wait for my 2 green/blue eggs....at 22 wks. they both layed brown eggs....i'm so disapointed. is this normal or just my luck?

Just got my first EEs. I bought three hens. I'm calling them Pretty, but tugly, and brown. I'm not one to name my birds (my Marans are Sherman, 1,3 and 4) but But tugly had to be named. She's butt ugly. Pretty feathers, but her face is woof!

The fearsome threesome (AKA bad chikkies go walkabout. Why brown was all hot looking in the above. She decided to rub amok after her sisters were back in the 'coop'.)

What colors would you call them?

Introducing my "foster" chicks that I'm raising for my sister. She wanted some easter eggers and couldn't brood them, so I'm raising them with my chicks. They are soo cute

They are from Privett hachery via TSC and hopefully are all pullets. I miss my two EE's and their beautiful blue/green eggs and I may have to adopt the brown chick

Very pretty, just dont expect the single combed one to lay blue/green eggs. They are all gold duckwings, Pretty is a gold duckwing with ether light blue or splash.

Hello there,
Does anyone have a fully grown hen who looked like this as a chick? I got her at a local farm store in a batch of mixed EE of all colors. She started out blue/grey and bright yellow, but is looking a bit more dark white/buff as she goes.....If you have a picture of a similar one all grown up, I'd love to see it!!

Love those fluffy cheeks!

Sorry, but yes, it's just the luck of the draw. EE's can lay most any color: pink, blue, green or brown

That happened to my sister too. She was so excited about her EE that she got me excited, so I got one too. Hers ended up giving her brown eggs and mine ended up with olive green. She was ticked!

Being her big sister, I had to brag a bit about mine.....

That is a real bummer though. Hugs.
