The EE braggers thread!!!

I have a question: I have 2 polish silkies that are pure white, a Roo and a Hen. I also have 2 pure white Production Blue hens who started laying their beautiful blue eggs last week. As the Prod Blues are Amie crosses and have nice beards, if I cross them with the Polish Roo, do ya'all think they'll be white with beards and hippy heads and lay blue eggs? Or...will the silkie genes ruin the blue egg laying? I am going to try, and don't mind either way, so long as I get a white hen with a hippy head and a beard! The whole thing has my buddies howling at me. They think it's such fun, laughing at me and my chickens.
I have a silkie cross hen - a blue hen crossed with what I was told was a sex-link rooster. She has the silky body, and the funny top-puff, but she has regular feathers, even the top puff! Since her dad wasn't bearded and the mom has a minimal beard, she didn't get much in the way of a beard.

I think if you cross a white bird x a white bird you will get white birds - as long as both of the birds are recessive white. If they are dominant white and only carrying one copy you could get a different colored bird.. I guess you will just try it and find out!

The birds will not lay a pure blue egg though, because the silkie's eggs aren't pure white. They will be very close to blue though, my three silkie girls lay a very lightly colored egg.

I just hatched 3 little silkie EE's! The father is a purebred Ameraucana so they'll have the blue-based eggs for sure [F1's]. Probably will get little blue-green eggs.

They're in their awkward "teenage" stage right now at 8 weeks, but they have little feathered crests and their beards are coming in. They have black skin and feathered feet. One has one foot with 5 toes. :)

Their mom lays a very-close-to-white egg. Would be so cool to get a little pale blue egg if any daughters inherit her egg color.

Yes I quoted myself lol. I just wanted to give an update. Today they are just over 4 weeks old.

And Chick 1 (black) is still a girl
Chick 2 BOY
Chick 3 BOY
Chick 4 BOY

nums 2,3and 4 all now have 3 rows of peas coming in. Im bummed:( agh

Bummer! I sold mine a few days ago, still unsure about sex. EEs are so hard to sex!

Wanted to show my Blonde EE. It's my first lite colored EE. It's from a Blue/Red EE Roo and Black or Blue EE hen. Sweet chick and her bff is a silkie. They just got their own coop.

Now this is where the friendship is tested. THe EE wants to roost the Silkie wants to huddle on the floor...
SO I mad a roost that is 2inches off the floor, so the EE can roost and Silkie huddles up under the EE.
Seems to work fo now.

Love them...

If the mom's egg is very close to white then they will probably lay a really cool little blue egg.. as long as they are girls....

Glad to hear you found a home for it. I have someone wanting to come pick up my 4 remaining 4 week old EEs and also 10 day olds that are due to hatch anyday(they are already rocking) but I dont think many eggs are gonna hatch and once they find out I might not have 10 babies for them and discover the 4 week olds are possible 3 boys 1 girl, they might back out

Thanks!
I would go crazy over little pale blue eggs! But you do indeed point out the operative question of if any are girls! My current guess based on behavior and how the feathers came in is two girls and one boy. We'll see though!

I do need to get pictures of them to share. I also have from the same hatch some BA and PBR chicks from the same blue Ameraucana cockerel. These chicks are really really cute and are getting nice little beards. The BA babies have really pretty big australorp eyes. I have 6 blacks and 5 blues.

But! It's 12 degrees out right now and will be like this for another week! I'll take pix when it's a little warmer. [Chicks are in the garage with a heater!] Thanks!!

Brrrr... that's COLD! And here I am complaining when it gets to 28. Ok.. I will wait for pictures - but they sound cute. Since the BA and PBR chicks are also EEs.. pics of them too, please?
