I have a silkie cross hen - a blue hen crossed with what I was told was a sex-link rooster. She has the silky body, and the funny top-puff, but she has regular feathers, even the top puff! Since her dad wasn't bearded and the mom has a minimal beard, she didn't get much in the way of a beard.I have a question: I have 2 polish silkies that are pure white, a Roo and a Hen. I also have 2 pure white Production Blue hens who started laying their beautiful blue eggs last week. As the Prod Blues are Amie crosses and have nice beards, if I cross them with the Polish Roo, do ya'all think they'll be white with beards and hippy heads and lay blue eggs? Or...will the silkie genes ruin the blue egg laying? I am going to try, and don't mind either way, so long as I get a white hen with a hippy head and a beard! The whole thing has my buddies howling at me. They think it's such fun, laughing at me and my chickens.
I think if you cross a white bird x a white bird you will get white birds - as long as both of the birds are recessive white. If they are dominant white and only carrying one copy you could get a different colored bird.. I guess you will just try it and find out!
The birds will not lay a pure blue egg though, because the silkie's eggs aren't pure white. They will be very close to blue though, my three silkie girls lay a very lightly colored egg.
