Ooo!! EE thread!! I'm getting an EE this March!!! BTW- how can you tell if your 'Ameraucana' is an EE or a true Ameraucana? My feed store says they're selling Ameraucana's but since it's really rare to get a true one, how can you tell if it's a true Ameraucana or an EE? Thanks!! -little farmer

Feed stores typically sell EE and lable them as Ameraucana. I dont know what characteristics to look for in a true Ameraucana though.

It seems that anything that doesn't fit that standard including color is considered an Easter Egger. Technically even Ameraucana would fit into easter egger breed but not the other way around considering they were bred from them to an arbitrarily defined standard.

Just to let you know I wasn't saying that you were wrong, and you are probably right abotu yours., it's just not a predictable way of telling for me. You know chicks are all different even within the same breed.

I've got some EEs and EE crosses coming off Thursday.

Yea, I know that. Been saying that I'm getting an EE since Ameraucana's you can really only get through breeders. Just wondering!!! I know that Ameraucana's ony lay blue eggs, and EE's can lay from blue to green to pink, so we'll see!!!

Best way to know is if you are buying from a feed store, a hatchery, or from breeders who mix their colours - they are all EEs.

Green legs are a classic EE sign. Legs need to be slate.

Ameraucanas come in Blue, Black, Buff, Blue Wheaton, Brown Red, Silver, Wheaton and White. So anything other than those 8 colours would be considered an EE.

That's among other things. They need to breed true 50% of the time even if they fit the above colours.

Couldn't agree more. I love the look of the Easter Eggers we received from the hatchery, they are beautiful. The only thing I don't like is not knowing if they will lay blue or green eggs. I would really like them to lay a nice color of blue.

Here are two of our new Easter Eggers, far left and far right. The far left coloring is by far my favorite of our entire flock, I just hope she lays blue eggs. Front and center is our Red Star Pullet, below them all are two Light Brown Leghorns.



Just so people know, they have a very large coop and run, they are just huddled in the corner hiding from me and the larger hens at the moment the picture was taken.
