The EE braggers thread!!!

Everyone's birds are beautiful!!! I want some EEs so bad. But am having some problems finding some chicks in my area. Where do you get your birds?

That is the awesome thing about EE's. There is no "standrad" so you don't have to worry about someone telling you your bird is not up to the standard. The only "standard" is that they are unique and lay a tinted egg. This means they are available at most hatcheries and feed stores.

However....many hatcheries/feed stores sell them as ameracauna which is a "pure bred" bird unlike the EE....... so you may have them available and not know it.

This is Beauregard My Favorite Roo.

Polly & Dolly

Beau again. He likes having his picture taken. LOL He seems to pose. I was given Beau and Rosco and told they were Americauna. I bought 4 pullets to go with them. ...2 turned out to be roos as well. I'm going to trade them today.

Dolly.

I don't care that they are EE's I was rather upset to discover that I had paid for more roos. I called the man I got them from and he said I could bring them back and trade them. I'm sure he is wanting to lure me there to buy more chickens too. lol I think they are addictive. I'm taking two extra carriers just in case. I want colorful birds and eggs I don't really care if they are Pure breeds or not. I find it funny how some are so snobby about it. Especially Americaunas.

Beau is very handsom. Rosco has some nice blue in his tail - he would make very pretty and colorful babies! I love your two black and white girls!

Welcome to the EE thread where we celebrate the differences in colors in our birds. Unfortunately the Ameraucana (Americauna) name was stolen by the hatcheries to sell their mixed breed birds, so the Ameraucana people are very touchy when somebody claims to have their breed. The Ameraucana colors are very specific, and it says on their website that any color outside of the recognized color is an Easter Egger. So even two pure bred Ameraucanas mixed together in the wrong color combination will give you unshowable birds. They are also a new breed, so fighting to stay pure is very important to breeders.

I love my EEs, they lay lots of green/blue eggs for years (I have some 8 year old birds still laying), and the roosters are very friendly and I have never had one attack me. I have had them for about 20 years, and NONE of mine have ever gone broody on me, so I had to buy a whole bunch of mixed birds to find broodies.

Yes, chickens are addicting. Welcome to the addiction!

Yup, That's where my Olive Egger girls came from: Blue egg hens bred to Marans Roo. One lays a beautiful olive green and speckled with dark brown egg. The other hen lays the OD Green egg, no specks.

As far as where do we get the EE chickens? Get any of the EE chickens from the hatcheries. I see them advertised in McMurray (and is it Cackle?), as well as other hatcheries. Most any nof the hatcheries have EE's listed. Now, getting true Amaracaunas is a lil more difficult. I was given 9 "Auracaunas" at about 6 days-old, but knew they were going to be EE's at best. They had tails, sooo....They actually turned out to look like Amaracauna Standard, tho I don't have any way pf provenance. Doesn't matter to me, anyway, I just raise them, and any selling that I do will be to folks that just want "Colored Egg Chickens". Some folk are pretty nit-pickish about pure breeding. I tell them to pay that 1000% mark-up listed by the hatcheries for those 4F pure birds. Mine lay eggs, which the "pure for show" chickens have a disclaimer on. It says that the birds are for appearance and show and are not bred for meat or egg production. My birds are pretty, in my opinion, and I get eggs and baby chicks, and I have birds to mess with and watch. I feel like I'm winning on all counts!

LOTS of beautiful birds in this thread! SistaChick! That bottom hen of yours, the blackish one? I have one that looks VERY similiar, but she's almost pure black, tha pencilloing is much fainter, and she has silver sparkles around her neck. I call her Sparkle. ONE of my faves, and she started 2 Sundays ago, giving me perfect lil medium sky blue eggs. They are as blue as the 2 hens that I drove 110 miles each way to buy for blue eggs. HAHAHA! Serves me right. What color egg does yours lay? I dunno how, but my pic added above everything. That's Sparkle.

This is the two I'm taking back. The one in front will make a beautiful Rooster. If I didn't already have 3 I would keep him.

The red one has lots of grey/blue.

His tail is all blue.

TW1Kell, Starr hasn't started laying yet but I think she will very shortly as CordonBleu has been "bothering" her lately. I am not sure how old she is. I got her from a lady about 2 months ago.

Sparkle is pretty, the name suits her!

Really neat looking chicken. Love the necklace!

Everyone's birds are beautiful!!! I want some EEs so bad. But am having some problems finding some chicks in my area. Where do you get your birds?

All the feed stores in our area sell "ameraucanas" that are in fact EEs. They don't understand that there is a difference. When I was getting started I talked to the owner of our local feed store. Her response was..... "Every time I ask our suppliers (hatcheries) they grumble and tell me AGAIN that EEs and Ameraucanas are the SAME thing. That all this whining about Ameraucanas is just a lot of hot air."

Well, now I know the difference. I don't show or breed, I just like the pretty colors. And I'm LOVING the EEs I've seen in these photos! I had no idea there was such a wonderful array of colors. All the feed store EEs I've seen look like my EE in the avatar. But I know people that are breeding their EE girls to what ever roosters they have, and I'll bet they're getting pretty birds like the one shown on this thread.

So.... I'd suggest you go to the thread for YOUR area and chat with some of the locals until you find what you're looking for. But either way, you'll have some pretty eggs! Enjoy!
