ok. question. What will happen if my EE hens get bred by my Leghorn Roo?? Will they still be EEs??

Yes, I have a white leghorn/EE, she lays huge pale blue eggs. Her brother hatched with a single comb, I didnt keep him. Both where white with black specks

Everyone has different definitions for EE. Some look at them broader than others.

Quote The first one looks like she is Wheaten-based. The second one looks like the standard EE pattern-y deal. Some people call it partridge but with all the mysterious EE genes, it could be any number of things working together to create what you see.

 Everyone has different definitions for EE.  Some look at them broader than others. 

I personally only call green/blue egg layers EEs, all of my EEs have pea combs, and most have beards, as they are Ameraucana based. If I have any hatch with single combs, I sel them as mixed, as they are not likely to lay green eggs.

But leave out the single comb part. If they are from two parents that have peacombs, I will usually use them to breed back to EE.

I have been wanting to get barred EEs for some time but I never timed it right. So I went and got me mama and papa Cream Legbar. No one made a fuss over them on the AZ thread so I am going to post them here :


Even without the color markings of the white head spot on the male, Notice the legs !


At one month old they are calm sweeties.

Of course I will try to keep them as Cream Legbars but Papa will have access to EE hen also

I've been noticing that there are some pretty standard colours showing up over and over again for EEs sold as Ameraucanas. Like my three (one of which is only missing the beard and the "proper" colouration)

Old photos. I really need to take new ones. The brown, there at the middle is getting more and more chocolate as days go by. Gorgeous, almost mahogany in some areas. The golden/buff one we call Buffy - and, she's bloody huge. The other one is a variation on a theme. I love them all. Not a one of 'em anything other than mutts; but, gorgeous and sweet tempered all around.

I'm a bit curious about the common colours that I'm seeing (the last combination in particular). I am assuming it's from some shared gene; but, I have no idea what. Just, when you do a search on Easter Egg Chickens, you often find photos of them coloured much like she is. Almost down to the feather.
BTW, that's molasses mash that the BR is hogging. They go nuts for the stuff - molasses, milk and mash, warmed up and served on (our TX version of) cold mornings.
