The EE braggers thread!!!

I wasn't sure what therad i should ask this question on so I decided to pick the EE braggers thread, since you guys on here are really good anwsering questions and explaing them. So here it goes. I have a rooster, so i have always know there are a chance of some of eggs being fertilized. But the thing is i have never caught him doing anything, but i sure he dosen't just sit aroung all day gossiping with the hens! So my question is, is there anyway that i can tell if the eggs are fertilized or not? Or is the only thing that i can do is put some eggs in the incubator and see if they hatch? And if any of you are curious what hens that i have in the same pen with him, they are all listed below in my signature. All of them are in the same pen eccept for the babies. Thanks

If you look closely at the yolk, there is a white speck on it. If the egg was fertilized, the speck will have a white circle around it -- something like a mini bullseye.

Oh, and the circle isn't white - it is a wide band of darker yolk color around the white speck. Unfertilized eggs have the white speck.

That's the fun of EEs - you never know. Keep a photo journal as she grows up - just in case you get any more you might have some idea....

probably hard to say but maybe partridge looking of some sort? just a guess though

Its actually the best way to tell - aside from hatching the egg. I have seen a rooster jump a hen and the eggs were not fertilized because he was too old - and I have found eggs that were fertilized but I NEVER saw the rooster on the hen. Some are just gentlemen and won't jump them when being watched...

I'm glad you told me that the spot isn't supposed to be white, because all of the spots i saw were darker yellow. I was still going to put some of the eggs in the incubator anyways just in slim hopes of them hatching, but now i am definatley putting in a dozen. Along with 7 eggs that i ordered, that arrived yesterday.

OK, someone said I should post these here. These are my first ever, incubated chicks to hatch. They are frizzled EE from a local source. Pure little black fluff balls.

These pictures really wash out the color. They are dark black with dark black legs and feet.
