The EE braggers thread!!!

EEs are perfect for 'what color will come next'!

And yeah, I get what you're saying for non-standard Ameraucanas.

I think they usually say no because you don't know the genetics that this bird carries and so you don't know if it will breed true. I believe they say if it breeds true 50% of the time that it qualifies for the standard, but I'm not totally sure there. This is assuming the chick ends up with slate legs, not green or willow, and has a proper comb. Obviously, if you find any feathers of a color other than blue, you're not going to be able to pass it as a blue Am, either.

I should note here that I don't actually have any Ameraucanas or experience with breeding them, but I do want to breed silvers in the future and so I have done my share of research on the breed.

Yes, I pretty sure it is as long as it breed true 50% of the time.

So sorry to hear! Yes, I think they do have a harder time with the heat! I keep pans of cool water for them to stand in! If it is a glass pan, I just fill that up. If I am using something plastic or lightweight, I put bricks or rocks in the bottom. Even the other breeds of chickens like to cool off in the water.
I just burried one of my ee hens today

Thank you! I will do that. Ill put a pan or something out there so they can cool off in it. Ima really miss her. She was my fave hen. My family knew that and let me burry her alone. I would of gotten upset if someone else did it. Hard to explain.

Oh, I understand!!! Our most favorite EE is Amelia and second fave is Muffie. In fact, they are our most favorites of all 16 chickens!

I just went and picked up my latest batch of chicks hatched from my EE's. 3 out of 5 are blue. One of my boys is thowing blue like crazy. The hen they are hatching from is the one who lays the huge egg. She is the regular brown/gold. My other EE is smaller and looks a lot like a Silver Laced Wyndotte. She lays a small egg. I have one of her eggs I'm this batch. I will take pics tomorrow.

I love the surprise you get with EE's. Now I may have to keep these blue and see if they breed BBS. They will prob still throw some browns since that is the hen.

I love blue chicks in general they are so pretty.that is pretty much the reason that I am going to start breeding BBS ameraucanas instead of wheatens or another variety. Can't wait to see the pics!
