The EE braggers thread!!!

Thank you! I will do that. Ill put a pan or something out there so they can cool off in it. Ima really miss her. She was my fave hen. My family knew that and let me burry her alone. I would of gotten upset if someone else did it. Hard to explain.
Sorry about your EE. and I understand what you mean.I never burry any of my animals with anyone, I always do it alone. It is just a lot eaiser to do by yourself and I always fee better if I am alone while I do it. I also know what you feel when someone else burries them for you. When I was a little kid my pony died and my parent burried it and didnt tell me for like a month...it is a long story but they just didnt have the heart to tell me.

I love blue chicks in general they are so pretty.that is pretty much the reason that I am going to start breeding BBS ameraucanas instead of wheatens or another variety. Can't wait to see the pics!

LOL... I have blue Polish and Blue LF Cochin. And a lone Porcelain Milli Fleur Dutch Bantam roo and a mix Jersey Giant pullet. I have all colors of chickens, but the blue is catching my eye lately. My favorite he was a Silver EE that my sons dog killed. I'm going to hang on to all of these and see I I get a silver too. I'm making a early determination with my guessing system that all the chicks the hen hatched, but the yellow chipmunk striped are pullets. ...we will see.

I also have a mixed flock of many breed of colors. But I also have some seperate pen+coops for birds that will be used for breeding.Sorry about your silver. A neighbors dogs killed about 30 of my chickens, until i finally got them to keep their dogs up ( well maybe i didnt....it was the sheriff).

Well this was my sons dog. Its a puppy and I have been trying to give it away with no luck. She weights about 40lbs and tries to play with them. Doesn't pull feathers out or anything. I have it double collored and chained up now. Which I hate doing. She is on a 20 foot chain not a short thing.

I also have a barn that I keep my Flock and goats in. I have two coops and a Little Tykes Cabin I converted after my kids out grew it. I have way to many chickens and need to learn that I can't keep all of them. ...or afford to feed them either. lol

I have a good trio of Polish. I have a blue Cochin cockeral and another pullet ordered. I have a Blue barred and a black.

The JG was in a group of 6 chicks that were supposed to be pure from a breeder and turned out to be a mixed up mess. I her because she was so sweet. I wanted to get more, but have gotten started with these EE so they will have to wait. ...and I said I wasn't going to do anymore brooder boxes this year.
Oh well I can mix these in with some silkie chicks I got after I decide which ones to keep. I'm just getting into this and I'm probably getting in over my head. at least I have someone who will take what ever chicks I want to get rid of. I put them up for sell and then what doesn't sell in a week or so I give away. Its hard doing that with EE because I say to my self "Hmmm... I don't have one that color." The DH was walking through the yard and told me I needed to get rid of some of these chickens. I was thinking to my self don't go in your workshop and count the chicks in the brooder boxes.

Thank you everyone for yalls kind words in understanding. Just thought id add a pik of 3/4 of my ee girls

hello all!

i was completely new to chickens when i bought 8 Easter Eggers. 5 turned out to be roosters, and 3 pullets. we decided to keep 2 of the males that came with that and are in the process of rehoming the remaining 3. below are the 5 EEs from the first batch that we are keeping. the first two are the roosters. these guys are about 10 weeks old if i had to estimate (i was never given a hatch date - nor breed other than "easter egger" feel free to guess at some breeds!).

after the blunder of getting more roosters when i wanted pullets, i ventured out to a different source and got 5 more 15 week old. i did get a third rooster, but i just couldnt resist him. hes a silkie/muran mix i believe. i call him afro chicken.

the rest, as far as i know, are pullets. again, feel free to guess the breeds. she has: black copper muran rooster, blue ameraucana rooster, ameraucana hens, silkie hens, silkie rooster.

and thats my bunch! i want to breed them (by demand) when they start producing eggs. i have silver laced wyandottes and will be getting silkies shortly. safe to say, ive become addicted to chickens!
They are all so handsome! Love the one with the bushy top!

I had a ton of chickens, got rid of quite a few and then bought somemore, then the dogs I mentioned before attacked.Took me down to an all time low for me about 5 which is not nearly enough lol. Bought a couple of breeds that I had been wanting before and hatched some mixed breeds. Then got some hatching eggs and chicks to start up my breeding program. They arent old enough to breed yet but will be in a few months. Then I plan on keeping some of their offspring. After I start breeding, I will never have below 50 chickens. It will probably be somewhere between 50-100.Yes I am obsessed with chickens lol.Feed wont cost all that much, because they will free range and be able to scrath and eat a lot of bugs and I have a garden. Most of what I grow I dont eat, but I give the chickens a lot of fresh produce. Winter is when the feed bill gets expensive for me.because the ground is covered in snow and the garden is dead. Your not the onlyone that has too many chickens lol.I have 5 adults, 4 teenagers, 7 pre-teens, 9 chicks, and 30 eggs in the incubator and am getting more really soon constantly watching for hatching eggs....thinking about buying a second incubator(that i dont need lol). I had a lot more before that but decided that their were certain breeds I wanted to focus on, plus I keep some various breeds for showing.
