The EE braggers thread!!!

we lost one of our chickens this morning :( our orange and white rooster, Fry. He was fine last night, we checked on them all late the night before and they were all cozied up together in the coop. This morning my fiance woke me up around 9am and told me he found Fry dead, in the same spot he had been last night but he was on his side this morning.

I don't know what happened, he was fine last night and he seemed healthy, glossy feathers, well kept, active.. though i had noticed he lay around a lot, but he'd run around and ate and drank ok. I just don't know :( anyone know what could have happened?

he was one of my favorite roosters, i was so excited to see hat he was going to look like all grown up :(

We buried him on the edge of our property...

Sorry :(

There's a name to the color? haha, I picked the lightest, and most silvery colored chicks, and she's one that turned out pretty!
Well there is the makings of another project.Red shoulders on males can be a problem with silver and blue silver also. Not knowing and then finding a name for a color can be fun.

Sorry for your loss. I know family and friends out west are fighting to keep their chickens cool. They have lost a few this week. The teens and very old seem to be the hard hit ones. I know last year when it got over 100. I put a fan in the run, put a frozen gallon of water in the water bucket and then sprayed down the run and chickens with the hose. I had mad wet chickens but they cooled down. This year it's been cool.77 yesterday for a high. But now we are under a flood watch. too much rain.

Could he have died of heat stroke? What color was his comb the night before? It sounds like he had an internal problem, but usually they'll act "odd" the day before. If his comb was a little paler the night before, I'm thinking either heat stroke, or a heart attack. I'm sorry for your loss, but unfortunately, these things happen.
