The EE braggers thread!!!

I'm guessing we are gonna have an early long winter. :(

Hate to say it, but I think so. I was just outside and it feels so much like fall. I actually got kind of cold. Well I guess I'll soon have to bring out the heated water bucket, coveralls, and my heavy Carhartt jacket soon. Winter sucks!

It's normal for our weather here to change on Labor Day weekend. It's our unofficial end of the summer. Summer unofficially starts on July 5th.
Summer is any day that hits 80 degrees. A couple years ago we had a day with only 8 days of summer, and some of those days was just barely for a few minutes.

So rain is back and the younger chickens are all "what the heck!" The cats didn't even blink before heading out in it today. They only care if it's pouring. Normal drizzle is just life.

I have heard from allot of farmers around here in AL that this winter is going to be pretty harsh. The hummingbirds are even starting to migrate and they normally don't start until mid September

Are anybody elses chickens molting yet? I noticed today one of my EE hens is and I thought it was a little early for them to start
Here is Honey just growing back feathers after the worst molt of her short four year life. I have another Faverolle going through a molt that has last for months too. I didnt pay attention as to if it was late, early or what. I guess I never knew molting had a season as my flock seems to experience it at differing times.

Mine all seem to start around the fall and usually one right after another it seems. I try to separate the hens from the roo when they are growing new feathers so they don't break and then put them back with the rest when they are close to being done.
