The EE braggers thread!!!

Sadly we lost Honey last night to a coon, she was apparently roosted up high when I brought everyone in from free range and didn't see her. I feels horrible, feathers all over the free range area and in some our buildings, but never found the carcass.

OH NO! She was so beautiful! Darn predators. Two of my chickens were lost to a predator too earlier in the year.

Are there any specific colors that cause the pattern on this hen? I know it's very common, but I have a chick that looks to be showing this pattern, but instead of black, it's kind of a dark blue... It's the middle chick in the picture. It's starting to show light orange (similar to the light brown on the hen) feathers coming in at the top of the wings and on the chest. She is not the mother and the father is a New Hampshire mix.

No way could I live in Texas. TOO HOT! I don't remember it getting above 90 this summer. And that about killed me lol. Ready for winter here, just not looking forward to frozen water
I'm by Dallas. I've barely been here a year. It gets pretty hot, but it's generally not as miserable as Houston

The best weather I've been in is in San Diego..lived there for a few years when I was younger.

San Diego weather is pretty awesome! We still get the heat in East County part of San Diego but not too bad.
I spent my younger years in El Cajon and Santee, then it was La Mesa and PB lol
Definitely prefer PB. I still have family in El Cajon, La Mesa, and Temecula :)
If it wasn't so expensive, I'd be out there too!

So sorry to hear. :hugs

Thanks...

I am in Colorado and it has been a fairly mild summer for us. It was hot late June through July, not nearly as hot or dry as last year. Garden is just know in full gear, which is late, but that is what everyone is experiencing here.

Washington State: I have lived on both sides of the state. I'm on the dry side now.

The Pacific Northwest (the wet side) has a mild summer. Only a weeks worth of above 90 degree days scattered throughout a short dry summer. The rest of the year it rains.

The Inland Northwest (the dry side) I'm up in the hills and we have 6 to 7 months of winter. It can start snowing mid October and thaws late April.

Spring (mosquito season), Summer (wasp season), and Fall (stinkbug season) are crowded into the other 5 to 6 months of the year. If you want to see colorful fall leaves... Well, we mostly only have evergreen trees. But, here in the hills the leaves on the bushes do start turning a nice red in mid August.
Yikes, I don't think I want 6-7 months of winter!
