I did not know that about the Legbars @jerryse thank you for sharing that,I always like to learn something new.
Also,let me know if the auto sexing breed your working on turns out good,and when it is finally a breed,I will try to purchase some if you are willing to sell,and I will breed them and help get them going as a breed...because I plan on starting a small hatchery next year,and the more breeds I can get,the better I will do,and it will help it to get recognized by the APA.

Will do . I decided not to make them a Ameraucana due to barring affecting slate color in the legs . So this is totally for fun , blue green eggs and auto sexing .

Another thing I think would be neat to try is crossing my light Brahma rooster with my black copper maran hen...but I first want to breed my pair of black copper maran pair,and then use the offspring that are hens and cross them with my brahma roo... I think it would be a cool cross...although,I do a lot of crosses with my light Brahma roo... I found that if you cross one with a white leghorn hen,that you will get roosters with a white background, that have black splashes on them,and they have yellow,feathered legs,that are kinda long like a Brahma's, and the hens are a more light lavender base color,with black splashes on them,with greenish colored feathered legs...all offspring have pea combs too...I did a clutch of 12 eggs in the incubator,and I had 8 eggs actually hatch...7 cockerels,and 1 pullet...I think maybe genetics played a role in there being more cockerels....but I don't really know.

Oh also,I forgt to ask earlier,but are these going to be an actual breed? Like they breed true? Because I know EE chickens are just mix breeds,but I'm picking up that you are going to create an actual breed.

Those are 1/2 Legbar and a crele EE line with some wheaten/buff Ameraucana . I think I will rose comb next to get a cushion or walnut type comb . I will get them to breed true for auto sexing first . Well these will now . Not trying for a breed just a good auto sexing EE line .

Have you been able to autosex them yet? I always wondered how that would work...getting the trait for autosexing... Do you have to just take and separate different looking chicks,and then take males of one pattern,and females of a different pattern? I have never understood how that worked...

Barring is the key . Females can only have1 barring gene ( hemizygous ) males can have 2 There is a dosage effect on some colors resulting in lighter chick down on males . Wild type striped chick down works best . Also the white / yellow head spot on males is larger and irregular in shape .

Notice how the top 2 chicks have a large head spot and light stripes . Those are males . The other 3 are female . Little or no visible head spot . The dark one is ideal for sexing . The 2 lighter ones may confuse some people but there is no large head spot . So even though the chick color varies I can still sex them .

Okay,that makes more sense now...also,I saw your profile pic is a lavender ameraucana rooster. I was wondering if you knew of someone who breeds those...because I have bbs ameraucanas...I have a pair of blues,a splash pullet,and a trio of blacks...at least this is what they appear to be(gender wise). They are about six weeks old...maybe seven. I am really going based on there size and behavior...as well as the fact that the two I think are cockerels have slightly longer tail feathers than the ones I think are females.

That is actually a lavender cuckoo ( barring ) . Not sure where you are located . John Blehm in Michigan and Paul Smith in Texas both sell chicks in the spring .
