The EE braggers thread!!!

Hello My name is Ann, I recently purchased "Ameracanas" and posted in the Ameracana thread and was informed my girls are instead EE's.

So here I am. I currently purchased 4 EE. I currently have them with my 1 month old silkies who seem to have adopted them. Cant wait to see what color they will be once grown.

I actually bred and hatched a chick that looks like your first one.

She's the little yellow one third from the left.

This is her at 12 weeks. Now, bare in mind, this does not, in any way, mean that your chick will look the same.

Those are sweet looking chicks. I love the yellow one with the neat pattern. I hope you post more pics as they feather out.

I've not seen one like yours with the "splashed chocolate" spots before. That one will be really interesting to watch. My guess is it will be white based with "I have NO idea" brown patterning. The yellow one will likely be white based as well. Is there any hint of non yellow color on her body feathers? My last batch of chicks included a pure yellow EE with a faint smudge of apricot on her head which was about the only thing that differentiated her from the White Rock chicks. She turned out like this:

and lays a nice blue egg, USDA Large

Well, actually, she did purchase AmerIcana chicks, or in her case "Ameracanas". The "I bet we can fool a lot of people by naming them something close to the name of an APA breed" trick. If bought from a big hatchery or a feed store that advertised them as "generic" (ie not color specific) Ameraucana, they are just continuing the false advertizing that has been common for many years.

And no, she shouldn't feel bad, all the intentional misnaming is repugnant.

There is an EE sexing thread:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/463817/easter-egger-sexing-tips-and-tricks-pictures-included

but the short answer is "No". But when you go over there and ask, the questions asked of you will be:
Please post a straight on shot of the comb, a side shot and how old are they

You can wander over and browse through some of the many pages of posts and responses and get a feel for what you want to look for (and when) to GUESS at gender. As they say, you may not know for sure until it crows or lays an egg.
Your bird is a beauty. No other color is noted to the yellow peeper at this time. I'm curious to see how she turns out. The spotted one was just to interesting of a pattern to let go. I cant wait for her to feather out. Not even sure what my chipmunk ones will look like. Super excited either way.

Hello! I have two EEs, one is almost 8 weeks old and there other about 5. They are fun to watch grow to see how they will turn out! I agree they are great chickens :)

These are my first chickens, mine were also labeled Ameracauna at the feed store but i had researched beforehand and knew they were EE (which is what i wanted). Why is there so much chronic mis-labeling?

If there is NO other color on her, I bet she ends out pure white ... until she starts into the dust baths after a foray in the rain. My 2 White Rocks are decidedly dirty brown now. You never know what a chipmunk one will look like, at least not the feather pattern. You can usually tell the base color by what color they are as chicks though. Along with the one above I got one that had an orange shade on its head early on and one that was more yellow/gold. The former is an orange "wild partridge" pattern and the other has a yellow/gold head and black tail with a more "normal" partridge pattern. She looks a lot like my 4 Y/O EE but she has a black head. Actually that is the only way to easily tell them apart at any distance.

Penelope: She first turned from chipmunk to barred then the barring slowly turned into 'penciling' starting from her head. But it isn't "regular" penciling so I was told that makes it "wild partridge". She lays LOTS of USDA Medium dark green eggs. :

Athena: She was the last of the 2015 chick to lay and lays a USDA Large medium green egg ~ 2 every 3 days.

Persephone: She lays a medium green USDA XL egg, 2 every 3 days or so at 4 Y/O. Never been a winter layer. Sorry about the blurry head.
