Stella is just beautiful. Love her colors! I definitely have a "mama's girl" too, she is my ameracauna Liberty. She isn't the most people oriented (she is two years old and we have only had her a few months) but she lays me a big blue egg almost every day. She has laid for 2 weeks straight before taking a single day off. She didn't use to announce that she had laid an egg but now when she has finished she comes out and announces until someone goes out and collects her egg and gives her some meal worms! LOL funny how they "train" us huh!
This is Stella.
In March we picked up 5 EE, 5 RIR, and 5 BR at the local feed store. My brother in law raised them in his brooder because we had 20 RedSexLinks chicks in our brooder and no extra room. He didn't love them the right way so they got no handling as babies. Thus when they got old enough to come here, they weren't very people friendly. They didn't want to be petted or even approached unless you had food in your hand. Suddenly last Friday Stella came up on the back porch and sat down with me to read the news and watch me drink coffee. She is even letting our 4 year old grandson pet her. I was glad she had gotten friendlier but confused. Sunday afternoon she gifted us with her first jumbo green egg! My wife is so excited! Stella is now her favorite hen and was invited up on the porch for her own bowl of peas last night. I wonder if the other hens are calling her "mama's girl" now.
